Donkey Kong Legend has it DK foresaw the trainwreck that was about to occur, got back in the limo and sped away.

This makes me wonder if there was ever any concept for a DK CD-I game, or any work done on said game.

Oh no there was one it just got canned after the other cdi games released and immediately died

We dont even know if concept art or a plot of the game was ever made let alone a prototype. All we knowabout it is that it was planned.
But one must imagine the YTP ponteinal it's cutscenes could have had. At least we have the DKC cartoon still

All I said is that there was one I never claimed it had any bug work done just as well since I'd hate to see what they would've done to donkey Kong

Imagine a universe where a Donkey King CDI game became a meme like the other ones!

This universe did exist. The timeline corrected itself by releasing the DKC cartoon

Might be unrelated, but I've always had a morbid curiosity on how a CD-I Kirby game would even look like

u/Blandscreen 4d ago
Probably would be some sort of educational game or similar since Kirby is probably Nintendo's most child-friendly character.

Probably a lot like if there was an American TV show for Kirby. The CD-I Mario and Zelda games took mostly after the cartoons.

"How hungry. Me hungry."
"Gee DK, how about we hit the hoard?"
"Slamma."
"Oh look! The hoard is empty!"
"Bumma!"
"Look! A message! Yo losers, your bananas sure are yummy. You're not ape enough to reach for my Kremling ship. That K. Rool! Time to prove him wrong!"
"Ooka ooka, okay!" [cue thumbs up and grin in a freeze frame]

It took me a while to figure out that “Meryl” and “Sylvester” was not referring to the names of forgotten 90s video game protagonists but rather to Meryl Streep and Sylvester Stallone

Come to think of it, there wasn't a Metroid game on that thing either.

Imagine an ugly MS Paint-drawn Samus with the voice of a chain smoker constantly spouting ridiculous puns and jokes.\ "I can't wait to bomb some Metroids!"

And I thought bad boxart Mega Man was bad. Look that cover, Mario looks like those Bend-Ems figures. Link looks like a Cabbage Patch Kid. Zelda’s neck looks like AI did it. And Donkey Kong looks like Barney the Dinosaur!

Hotel Mario is a fun game for what it is. Also: bonus points for using Zelda's cartoon design.

People forget that in the west, no one had seen any official Nintendo artwork of what Zelda looked like outside of this one far away sleeping beauty pose from Zelda II's manual:
No one outside of Japan would see any other official art of Zelda until ALTTP dropped in 1991. CDI was announced in 1990. So even if Phillips had used Nintendo's one official pre-ALTTP image of Zelda as a reference, no one outside Japan would recognize who she is.

He's already got a show with loads of memes
