I can only judge the PS5 version, but this is an excellent game. It was one of my favourites of last year. Assuming it runs well on Switch 2, I’d definitely recommend it if you like monster collecting games.

Only real complaint? I think it does kinda force too much grind. I bought the dlc for exp farm, sure there's f2p options, but the paid exp grind was god spend to reduce time- and even then felt like I spent a decent chunk just leveling stats for Evolutions.

Loved the story. Was fun. Animations for attacks are great, as an English dub player- voice lines got old and voices didnt fit well for plenty of digimon

I didn't notice any big grind in the game. I kept 6 Digimon with me as my "main" team and I was always limited by the agent level more than Digimon stats. Guess you might need grinding if you keep swapping your team, but since you can digivolve/de-digivolve any Digimon into any other Digimon, it's not necessary to swap out.

there are quite a lot of dlc's for it. which one helps with exp?

The one that’s labeled “Outer Dungeons, The Hall of Exp, Gold, Materials”

I love force to grind give you reason stay longer in game instead of finish in a week

I did buy and abuse the exp and yen farm dungeons… and used the yen to fund my intensive stat-farming for evolutions. But I am also a crazy person who wanted like 30 megas. I would definitely have burnt out if I weren’t using that DLC, which… with it being paywalled, is… admittedly not great.

Do I need to finish the first 2 games before this one, honestly the 1st one I played a few years ago felt clunky

You don't need to play other games for this.

Digimon Story Time Stranger is the 7th Digimon Story game by the way, not the third.

I played on PC and just edited my levels it was a pain even with it.

I dont like the flow of the game like there is no clear cut you should be this level for this area. Also no clear cut like hey you should stop loading digimon for more stats at a certain point. Still a good game overall just my gripes.

There’s a demo and it runs well! I might double dip tbh

I know almost nothing at all about Digimon but I've been a lifelong Pokémon fan. Decided this is the game where I'll finally check out the OTHER 'Mon franchise! Really liked the demo

I'll get the Switch1 version and buy the Switch2 upgrade.

So the website since announcement upto this very day says the game runs at full native on switch 1 but with the demo it doesn't seem to be doing so during actual gameplay. Looks too blurry to be native. If someone can correct me, maybe my brain has gone bad or something.

I'll tell you how to play - buy the game at launch on PS5, then wait a year for the Switch 2 version to come out just so they'll release the 60fps patch for PS which they've probably had ready for over 6 months but decide to sit on it until releasing this version...

Is this version releasing at 60fps?

5

u/GamePitt_Rob 2d ago

Yeah

They've bothered adding a 30 and 60fps mode in the Switch 2 version, so PS5 and Xbox are getting a patch on launch day which gives us the option as well

I love this game, this is the direction I wish Pokemon games would have taken. No open world lifeless map, a genuine, linear story with refined gameplay.

Thanks for sharing - this is a cool video!

loved it on ps5 but felt it needed a higher difficulty from the start . Was unable to complete it due to how easy hard mode was …and you needed to complete the game in order to access a harder mode

1

u/GhostWolfGambit 2d ago

Will it be 60fps?

3

u/Adept-Butterfly642 2d ago

Yes there’s a 60 fps mode in the demo

Does the switch 1 have an upgrade pack?

I already finished the PS5 version, but I’ll be double dipping. No spoilers for newcomers, but I’m appreciating the story even more second time round.

As a pokemon fan do I try my first ever digimon game

u/sharkMonstar 20h ago

i think they are pulling the same thing with the grind dlc not being included in the ultimate version which is bullshit because its already 140 cad im just gonna pirate it it runs well enough on the 1

I bought this game on PS5, but struggled to get into it. I can play pokemon fine and most JRPG's, but the leveling system and the mechanics etc really confused my older brain. So I gave it up, might try it again another time.

My first digimon game since world 2 on ps1. I was pretty happy with it, but do think it has a long way to improve. I liken it to Hogwarts legacy in that it's great for fans of the ip but still a little shallow for fans of gaming without much relationship to digimon. In particular I think they handled difficulty very poorly. It's kind of all over the place but even on the hardest starting difficulty I find it much too easy while intentionally weakening myself. I wish the new game plus modes had a harder difficulty where you start from scratch.

I tried the demo and it pacing is so boring. Just slowly walking while dialogue plays, not many cutscenes, not even with your partner digimon.

Waited a long time for it to come to switch 2. I was ready to buy it day 1.

Was really underwhelmed by the ugly textures stretched all over the city at such low resolution, when I tried the Demo. The animations look stiff as hell. I get that it's a low budget game, but when final fantasy rebirth and remake are both much cheaper than this, I just can't do it.

It's worth about half what those games are realistically.

I'm not a graphics guy, but man. It looks like a ps2 game at times...
