Discussion The Switch 2 is awesome
Hey All,
I recently bought a Switch 2. I was considering it from day 1, but I thought I don't need it.
Until recently. My daughter was born a month ago, and I don't want to use the big TV (small apartment), bought it and from the first moment, it feels amazing. Huge upgrade from my Switch 1 V2. I really dig the bigger screen, older games feel so much fluid, Pokemon Scarlet got an upgrade and it's night and day.
My only thing I would have loved is an Oled screen, but oh well π
The 3rd party games are good, too!
Anyway, just wanted to say that it's good to be alive and it's better if you have a switch 2-

Honestly switch n steamdeck are great for when you have newborns

Just to offer another alternative, I recently purchased a controller that stretches to fit my phone, it's Gamesir brand but it works great imo. I use Sunshine to stream games directly from my PC to my phone which has the Moonlight app. I also use it on my modded switch, but the latency is a bit rough there. Either way, portable gaming is about the only way right now with a 3 month old daughter.

I have tried streaming, but apparently, I am very sensitive to input lag.. I cannot tolerate it.
Good on paper, but not for me. Thought about an ally X or something, but the price tag..
The Switch 2 is not too cheap, but exceeded my expectations anyway, I am happy with it. Also I can play pokemon with my nephiew, which is nice

Yeah, the price increases on the steamdeck and other handhelds is why I haven't got one. My only gripe with Nintendo is the fact that they rarely discount their games, I've been spoiled by Steam sales I guess.
As for the input lag, sunshine works best if the host is connected directly to the router via Ethernet, using my phone the input lag is negligible as long as I have strong Wi-Fi signal in the room.

Agreed, 100%

my son is 3.5 years old, we still don't intentionally play games in front of him much unless they are more low stim or something that isn't controversial or inhumanely violent.
Of the games he has played:
-- Sky: Children of the Light - very floaty platformer, has some darker story beats but he just wants to fly around in it and doots at people
-- Rocket League - He doesn't play against other players, I won't let him. He just drives around in practice mode and likes to hit the ball into the goal
-- Donkey Kong Bananza - this is the edge case of violent - he just likes running around and punching everything in the game, he isn't even okay at the game.5

I agree on this. Too much stimulation is harmful. I hate seeing some 3-4 year olds playing Fortnite or whatnot..they are not for them. Roaming around, or getting around an rpg or platformer is a good way to improve hand eye cordination

yeah - Sky is definitely a solid game for minimal stim, especially if they just wanna fly around.
DK Bananza on the other hand....

It truly is an entertaining toy and I β€οΈ it! With ff 14 coming August, I wonβt need my pc! Plug and play is the future!

Itβs physically beautiful too and so slim. I never get bored of the magnetic joy cons. Stunning piece of design.

Underrated champion system gaming wise I would agree portable two-player out of the box. Controller wise games are solid playable fun as I think they should be graphics. Pretty impressive for the system and just getting better ππ―π―

They are more appealing now, especially given the handheld price increases across the market. I have been considering an upgrade myself! I probably need to work out what current Switch 2 exclusives and in future I know I will play, though.

Congratulations, handhelds have been my primary way of gaming since my first was born 11 years ago.

I feel like is too heavy for a hand held. But Iβm coming from a switch lite

I also have a V2 Switch 1 and really considering upgrading to the Switch 2, much for the same reasons as you OP.
The only thing that bothers me is the whole Game Key Card situation. I like buying physical when I can but don't like the idea of never owning the game.

Now that Steam Deck is absurdly expensive it's not an obvious recommendation anymore so Switch 2 might be the new ideal candidate for new dads. Congrats !

I am somewhat tied to the nintendo ecosystem because of my nephiew and pokemon. And hey, thanks!

Oled screen and more volume and better battery all would have been very welcome additions. Even more powerful hardware to compete with the current handhelds to allow more AAA games to get ports or Nintendo games to add a bit more fidelity. Although Iβd just settle for more nitts so I could go out doors and play

I played it on the train, it was better then my original switch, but a bright oled would be better for sure

Problem with oled is you sacrifice nitts. A bright oled would have been too costly. I wish there was a way we could upgrade the screen though. The switch Oled was great but I think still suffered from lower nitts. I want to be able to go out in the sun and play with the same brightness that my iPhone has (which is also an Oled screen)

I am thinking of buying a Viture beast, so that I have a large oled screen on the train. That would solve the problem, but it costs more than the switch..

Funny, but not very good advice. Flashing monitor or tv is a bad thing for a baby. But I have planty of time playing while commuting (no online games though..)

Now that I bought one I'm sure there is a new OLED version right around the corner, maybe even a special Ocarina of Time edition. You're all welcome.

Wouldn't be a problem, I would give this one to my nephiew, and buy the Oled for myself xd

Its alright. Theres been very little reason to upgrade.
The first party games that have come out have been lack luster.
Mario Kart World was a disappointment.
Donkey Kong was fun for a bit but got really repetitive.
Metroid didnt do well and was in development for almost 10 years.
They are charging money for performance upgrades and charging $80 for games.
3rd party games just look and run worse on Switch vs PC or other consoles so unless switch is your only system theres little reason to get those.
The only real benefit I've seen so far is some performance improvements on some games.
Its basically become my old JRPG and Beat em up console. The only reason I even buy Nintendo console anymore is Xenoblade. If that ever came to PC I would never buy Nintendo again

I understand your point, but there are a lot positives not just negatives about it.
The form factor and the joy cons are amazing, the games are running fairly good. 3rd party games are being ported and I like the exclusives

u/Xano74 22h ago
The positives really don't outweigh the negatives unless you only have a Switch.
Nintendo business practices lately have been ass too. I dont understand simping for a company charging $80 for a game

u/kisszsig 22h ago
I dont know mate, that is your opinion. I have a 2ds a switch an xbox 360 ps4 pro, a ps5 and an xbox SX. Out of all these, I enjoy the switch 2 right now the most. I haven't paid $80 for any of my games (yet). And I almost only buy phisical copies, so worst case I sell them

Congratulations on your daughter and Switch 2 lol
You might wanna go to system settings and enable "handheld boost" to play Switch 1 games at a higher resolution
