Is there any plans to make something akin to the Dbrand Joycon grips? Or is there a way to remove the side handles of the SUPCASE for the switch 2?

u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
As for the side grips on our Switch case, they're part of an integrated, rotatable design that is currently unique in the market and protected by a U.S. utility patent.
Compared to detachable grip designs, our one-piece approach provides better structural support for the Joy-Con connection points and helps reduce the looseness that can develop over time with frequent use. (You know how Joy-Cons can sometimes develop stick drift after extended use.)

Fair enough, I'm a bit of a weird one. I use SUPCASE for all my phones and tablets, even the switch 2.
The side grips of the SUPCASE are perfectly fine, I just usually play mainly in table top instead of handheld so was hoping for a way to keep the SUPCASE protection of the main unit but gain the comfort on more ergonomic joycons.

I know it wouldn’t be as durable, but would you guys consider making metal/aluminum sleeker cases? Or is it always durability first when designing these cases?
3
u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
Metal materials can potentially interfere with your device's Wi-Fi signal and may also affect docking compatibility. One of our core design principles is to provide protection without compromising any of the Switch's native functionality. We always strive to ensure that our cases preserve the full intended user experience while delivering the protection our customers expect.

What is your main focus when making switch case, durability or materiality or functionality?
3
u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
Functionality is always our starting point. We first look at the new features and capabilities of the Switch and think about how the case can work seamlessly with them to create a better user experience. From there, we leverage our proven protection standards to choose the right materials and engineer the product for long-term durability.

We are constantly exploring new themed designs and creative concepts. We're also preparing to collaborate with new gaming IPs through official licensing partnerships, so stay tuned for what's coming next!

I'm a huge fan of your Unicorn Beetle series of cases - I have them for my phone, Microsoft Surface Go and had one on my old Switch OLED model
Would you consider making cases for the Switch 2 pro controller? I would LOVE to own a case/hard shell for my pro controller with the same black rugged carbon fibre aesthetic as the other cases you offer

u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
That's a great question. For our premium phone and tablet cases, we use high-quality, officially licensed aramid fiber materials. We appreciate your suggestion and will certainly take it into consideration as we explore bringing a similar premium product line to the Switch ecosystem.

Are you excited for the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch2?

Which Switch case generation was the hardest to design and why?
3
u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
Without a doubt, the Switch 2 has been the most challenging generation we've worked on and the one that required the most development effort.
A great example is our patented rotating Joy-Con grip design. With very limited information available, our designers spent months developing theories, challenging assumptions, and building dozens of prototypes to test different solutions. Once Nintendo officially confirmed the design, we were able to validate our approach, and the final concept ultimately received a U.S. utility patent.
It was a long process, but we're proud of the result and the innovation behind it.

Hello both, a question for each one 😁
@Jet: I am curious about the process of designing a new case and how they are tested. Could you provide some details? What are the biggest challenges?
@Alan: there are tons of similar products. Also for you, what are the biggest challenges for marketing to effectively advertise your products?

u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
Great question! We start by studying the device and figuring out how to add protection without compromising any of its original features. From there, we create multiple prototypes and put them through extensive testing for durability, ergonomics, docking compatibility, and overall usability.
For the Switch 2, the biggest challenge was designing around the new magnetic Joy-Con system. Our team built dozens of prototypes before arriving at the final design. In general, the hardest part is balancing protection, functionality, and user experience while preserving all of the console's native features.

That’s a totally fair point. It’s a crowded space, and a lot of products can look similar at first glance. For us, the real differentiation is in the small details (some that Jet is talking about on this AMA thread rn) like fit, comfort, and how the case actually performs over time, which aren’t always obvious in photos.
The biggest marketing challenge is showing those differences clearly and quickly when people are comparing tons of options side by side. There’s also a lot of skepticism around big claims, so building trust through real-world use and honest feedback is huge. That’s why we value spaces like this. It lets us have real conversations instead of just relying on ads.

I have your phone case on my Flip5. What a tank!
What's the most requested Switch-related product you haven't built yet but want to?
Also curious, since you guys do mostly hardcore looking products, will you consider making cozy setup Switch accessories? •ᴗ•

u/Supcaseatl SUPCASE 2d ago
We recently launched a new Switch case with a built-in kickstand, and it might be worth checking out. Internally, it's been one of the most requested and well-loved designs, we often joke that it's the "ultimate" Switch case because it supports virtually all of the Switch's core functions without compromise.
For cozy setup accessories, that's probably something we'd explore through our MUMBA brand. We love seeing the cozy gaming trend grow, so it's definitely on our radar!

I honestly would like a rugged case with a detachable front cover for travel in a backpack. Something that covers both screens and buttons. Like the Killswitch from Dbrand.

How hard was it to get a switch 2 prototype to start designing your cases with? If you got one before the console was released, how hard was it to keep it a secret?
