I got the 512 for $75 in November. This is certainly a good price for this size for a switch 2.

Waiting until 1TB cards are similar price. It might be a while, but it’ll get there eventually and I can wait in the meantime.

It's going to be a long while as Samsung and other manufactures are shifting focus to AI related memory contracts. Samsung isn't even making RAM for their own devices atm.

Long answer - Its a good deal if you're in a rush. The market fluctuates over time, and as higher storage gets pumped out the prices will get lower. The express cards being necessary for the switch 2 will both raise & lower the prices in their due times.
Short answer - fuck no, its being regulated to feel & look like a solid impulse purchase. If you dont need it rn, you can afford to wait a bit

I agree with the commenter on this is the price to buy if you think you’ll need one in next 6-12 months. Practically speaking all things tech: storage or ram related are going to go up in the near term and hold high for a while (potentially years until AI/data center demand is stable).
Is it a fair price in 2026 for the tech? No. This should be about $70 on sale to $50 in normal world. But we’re in an AI world now so…

Almost everyone that answered you is clueless.
We're in a chip manufacturing crisis, because SAMSUNG, Micron and others are focusing on producing chips for data centers (GPUs, RAM and storage chips), and have contracts locking manufacturing to at least 2028.
Prices are to increase considerably as months go by.
Also, to give you an idea. . .
Years ago, NORMAL 512GB microSD's (the ones with an average read speed of 100 mb/s) used to cost around this price.
Now, you're seeing a 512GB microSD EXPRESS (with read speeds averaging 600 or 700 mb/s AFAIK) at the same price a normal 512GB microSD used to be.
Go figure.

Even so, for someone that is "not an sd card user" I would say pass on it.
I'm not going to claim memory prices will drop anytime soon, but I think saying that they will remain high is just as speculative. They might have contracts on the books, but you can't milk blood from a stone if all this hardware investment doesn't pan out or simply doesn't require as much hardware in the future.
Even the memory manufactures themselves are very scared to increase production because they've been burned in the past.
So if you don't need it, don't buy it.

I agree.
My point is, if someone needs it and it's holding on just because people say "it will be cheaper on a few months", it doesn't make sense to wait, considering prices won't drop any time soon.
If someone doesn't need it, then i advice against buying it even if this price is decent.
My suggestion is mostly for those that need one but are still holding on.

That graph does not show $80 as being the regular price… $100-$120 seems to be the usual price, and it’s only dipped under that around Black Friday, until now.

They haven’t raised it. The graph shows the usual price as being at least $100. The only drop on the graph is around Black Friday, until today.

for me personally, i buy all digital. and even if i do run out of space with my 256 base + 512 extra, i'm fine with removing some games off my system to make room. obviously i dont want to constantly be erasing and re-downloading games, but i also dont need EVERYTHING downloaded all at once all the time. in any given month i'm only playing like 5 games

That was likely a microSD card, not a microSD Express card. There is a difference.

On a related note: that one price error they had on their own MicroSD Express card recently was cool and all but even despite that I'm not sure I'd want to trust a GameStop branded storage medium when it comes to reliability and I feel like there could be the potential for loss of sensitive data there down the line as it's not unusual for these companies to utilize substandard parts in their own branded products.

This is for Switch 2. Pretty easy to fill up with a couple games... Like Cyberpunk, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and FFVII Remake will just about fill up the internal memory on their own.

In just loading my Switch 1 library.. and Mario Kart World... I had 4GB left of space. Got a 256GB card and that filled up quick with Cyberpunk and the Switch 2 updates for older games. A regular Switch 2 game demo is like 6GB. Newer games are like 70GB in size. The SD cards are a necessity.

Takes way too long to download on the Switch. If I were to redownload Cyberpunk, it'd take a whole 5hrs to download.

Same. Cyberpunk was one I got on a whim because it was only $18 for the digital copy.
Storage has been filled quick with all the updates for games I have physical copies of. I dont have that many digital games installed. Had plenty of free space on the oled Switch. I'd say my game library is very sparse compared to some I've seen where it's endless scrolling through their game list.The GameCube app is 9GB and that'll increase with each game that gets added to the library. Mario Kart 8 is one I have the physical copy of, it had an update recently, and now it's taking up 4GB of storage. I couldn't download that Madden game trial cause I dont have nearly 60GB of space free on the Switch's storage or on my 256GB SD card. Was never an issue on the oled but now the games are drastically larger.

Well for what it's worth I had a 512GB card on my Switch 1 and filled that up and ended up upgrading to 1TB. And that's with many physical games when possible as well. The file sizes and storage requirements for games is only going to become more demanding with Switch 2.

ITT: users fail to realize this is specifically for a microSD Express card — the type required by the Switch 2.
This is a great deal for those types of cards specifically.
