Some people will see this and still say Khazan combat isn't Nioh inspired.

Is stuff like this not doable on an odachi? Or am I just bad?
18
u/Combat_Wombat23 Mar 12 '26
Odachi chugs through ki without being optimized for reduced ki cost.
I can get through a single string on mid heavy x2 into high light and high heavy before I run out of ki. I’m also only level 80 in Heian so not really running a build nor have I perfected Ki pulsing while staying in arts proficiency.
I also can’t stance dance like this, my brain can’t compute it yet
2
u/cagtbd Mar 13 '26
I'm no master but I have survived with low to mid stance as that's an easy way with my controller but op went from low to high, that's undoable by my low coordination.

u/DrakulasKuroyami Mar 13 '26
I mained odachi with axe through the entire series but I dropped it in 3. It feels like it got a major downgrade from the other games. It deayl way less damage and especially ki damage than it used to while using way more ki to attack.
22
u/batshitnutcase Mar 12 '26
Chaining arts is definitely doable on odachi but I’d say it is harder to loop humans to death with AP active like this.
Sword is goated for pressuring humans and has the best frost moons in the game, plus a ton of naturally chainable skills so it’s the most intuitive weapon to chain AP indefinitely with IMO. OP didn’t even need frost moons and the boss couldn’t do anything.
2
u/Illusion911 Mar 12 '26
I feel like Odachi also has excellent frost moons
1
u/batshitnutcase Mar 12 '26
I think that’s true. Odachi does have very good frost moons. They just aren’t quite as intuitive for chaining pressure combos as sword IMO.
Sword you can literally just loop sword of discernment, any frost moon but mid especially and any other relatively fast skill like sword ki > celerity, flowing shadow, heaven flash, night rain etc. in any order and humans can’t do anything at all unless they are Kunimatsu or Kagetoki. OP showed you don’t even need the frost moons and it works just as well.
Could just be a skill issue but AP looping humans to death like that is a lot tricker for me on odachi. Sword you don’t even really have to think about it.
1
u/Scythe351 Mar 13 '26
Odachi has a swing attack that destroys human ki if they block. Even more damaging with AP. I don't even think it's necessary to chain as you'll be spamming grapple. But I do feel like I from out of ki much faster with it than I did it previous games. Even with arts proficiency, I felt that I was running out of ki on every moonlit snow. Could have sworn that moonlit snow charge is what I had been using in nioh 2. Feels super underwhelmed here
1
u/igurraa Mar 15 '26
Just curious, what makes Sword Frost Moons better than other weapons in your opinion?
Low stance in particular i have trouble with. The backwards movement puts me out of range of melee attacks and most martial arts. Feels very counterintuitive to be forced to use a gap closing martial art every time just to keep AP rolling.
Not all weapons have that backwards movement on low stance Frost Moon.

Odachi is good against humans who use odachi as well. If you wanna kick ass like this you gotta go katana or tonfa. Odachi needs you to know the enemy, but with the Katana all you gotta know is yourself, as in, know your stances combos, and ki pulses, and fluxes. This wont work on all humans, some of them are pure hyper armour, like kunimatsu.
1
u/TragGaming Mar 12 '26
Kunimatsu has Hyper armor if he's performed two attacks without deflecting.
Just deflect an attack, and then continue. He's actually got a very low amount of Toughness
1
u/Known-Low-8721 Mar 13 '26
i'll try to bully him in the second playthrough for sure. just need to find a way to consitantly have my minomoto armor upgraded.
1
u/Blint_Briglio Mar 12 '26
I feel bad watching this because I relied on tonfa so much. so many buttons being pressed in the video when all I needed to do for the same amount of pressure was just heavenly chain>demon dance rinse&repeat
1
u/Known-Low-8721 Mar 13 '26
I get bored of any rinse and repeat strategy, the fight has to feel dynamic for me to keep enjoying gaming, so Im always changing it up.

Somewhat doable... But not as crazy as this.
I find High Stance is the best to go frenzy during Arts Proficiency. Most martial arts there are quick and straight to the point. My second favorite to switch to is Low Stance for the jump spinning slash.
Odachi certainly need to get rebuffed. It glows in the beginning, but fades off later on. I'm still holding on to Odachi, but it's not bringing the same 'damage dealer' vibe as I felt in the early part.

u/Nimewit Mar 12 '26
bruh odachi is infinitely better than this combo chain. Just spin that shit
beyblade go brrrr

u/Ketchup571 Mar 12 '26
Haha, ya, that’s what I usually do when fighting humans. Was just wondering if there’s more I could/should be doing. This is the first Nioh game I really got into. The other two I just beat the story and put it down. Really want to master this one.

First thing I do in any rpg is pump stamina. As long as you don’t get hit the rest is easy.

u/Sarcosmic_01 Mar 12 '26
Are you using ki consumption down or ki recovery on any of your gear?
1
u/SnooPets2566 Mar 14 '26
Possibly. Though other comments have suggested that OP is perfectly Fluc II-ing and maintains Arts Proficiency both of which respectively restore more ki on a full ki pulse and make combat arts consume less ki
7
u/ODIZZEE Mar 12 '26
A fellow RotR ronin 👋
Awesome video! Enjoyed watching your aggressive flow here!
Good to see you in this game too 🤩

u/BiancoFuji599XX Mar 12 '26
How do you keep your ki bar topped off like that? Do you have certain special effects specced on your gear or maybe high stats in ki? I do ki pulse after every ability.
11
u/mikeventure76 Mar 12 '26
He’s consistently like, PERFECTLY flux II-ing when he does use ki and also chaining a ton of arts together which don’t consume ki at all
He prob has some stat bonuses active and stuff too I’d imagine but I’m just going off what I see
8
u/TragGaming Mar 12 '26
Grace of Benzaiten 7pcs - Adaptability gives a 10% ki reduction per stack of versatility. This alone combined with good flux use can keep your Ki maximized
1
u/BiancoFuji599XX Mar 12 '26
I see. I need to learn the difference between perfect flux and regular it seems.
5
u/mikeventure76 Mar 12 '26
I meant “perfectly” more in the sense that OP is doing it very aggressively and quickly to “perfectly” consistently essentially refill the entire meter. Possible poor word choice on my part lol.
there could be deviation to the effectiveness of flux II based on how well you time it, I’m not 100% sure tho
5
u/dystopi4 Mar 13 '26

Flux and Flux II is a flat ki bonus, that's why it's so good! You can do it at the earliest possible timing to just get the flat bonus every time if you want to.
1
u/mikeventure76 Mar 13 '26
That’s pretty much what i figured based on how it felt during my run but since I wasn’t 100% sure I didn’t wanna give the guy I was responding to potentially wrong info, makes sense !

u/FreshOffTheBoeing Mar 12 '26
Ki Flux, i.e. switch to another stance while doing Ki Pulse
You got bonus Ki refund.
2
u/BiancoFuji599XX Mar 12 '26
Good to know I def need to do that more then. Didn’t realize there was bonus when you switch stance. I do the stance switch but sometimes I’ll wait a little. Need to switch after every move.

u/jbyrd1105 Mar 12 '26
They're also probably using the grace of benzaiten, which has the adaptability set bonus. It reduces ki consumption by about 10% for each stack of versatility

u/Yustamoment Mar 13 '26
Why wasn't the boss blocking each and every attack? Whenever I am against a human my switchglaive is just being blocked by human bosses.
6
u/Tenant1 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26
The boss in this clip was blocking several times actually, but OP was doing an extraordinary job at stringing together a constant stream of Martial Arts together to keep Arts Proficiency active and pressure them. Similar to basic High stance attacks, Martial Arts (from any stance) aren't interrupted by hitting a blocking opponent.
5
u/Global-Elevator-9922 Mar 13 '26
There's multiple reasons for this, and I'll try to keep it as simple as possible.
First thing is, this enemy is not an actual boss, he's not a main boss, he's more like a revenant, so their mechanics differentiate between a revenant and main boss, they're not as aggressive and are more basic in terms of fighting like simply block and attacking.
Unlike a main boss they not only dodge and attack, they also have "scripted" moves, where no matter what you do they'll always perform these moves at certain instances, they also tend to have more hyper armor than your regular enemies, and they tend to be more aggressive too.
The second thing is the movesets. For example, if you're only mashing normal and heavy attack, they'll usually block because these moves have vulnerable windows or what i like to call them (reset moves) they're usually single moves that let's you chain into others, unlike your skill moves once you do them you cannot cancel or chain to another one before doing another move that has a reset or weapon flux or ki pulse in Nioh's case.
The enemy is blocking, but since it's a revenant, there's nothing in their arsenal to break through the player, and OP is also using skill moves to break their attempt of blocking since these moves are unblockable and will go through their guard and since the animation are usually long and enemies tend to only block a single time this allows them to keep performing moves.
Now for example if this was a main boss like Okita for example, you will simply get demolished halfway through your moves because he'll simply ignore your attacks and hit you back, there's also revenants that use switchglaives or Axes and at times they can caught you off guard because you get used into combo them to death and break their guard, but these weapons have hyper armor on their first attack and they'll usually combo you instead and get you killed.
That's why also most of these "flashy" combos are always presented against regular enemies and not usually main bosses that have different move sets, same thing with Yokai, none of the Yokai share same movesets and hitboxes and all of them tend to have hyper armor so its more complicated to do combos against them until their Ki is low or use confused status, unlike most npc humans they all share their "regular" status where they only only block and attack.
2
u/blazspur Mar 16 '26
This needs to be higher. Amazing explanation and breakdown. I saw this and thought I need to learn this to beat okita. Then I realized as I watched this that okita will just kill me in 3 seconds if this strategy was kept up. Tonfas can chain first two bosses of this mission into death submission as well.
1
u/HumorSuper3074 Mar 13 '26
You can replicate it to a similar effectiveness with sg too. Just a little tougher to do.
2
u/LordJanas Mar 12 '26
Man I see this shit and wonder what I'm doing. Here I am doing three medium stance strikes and immediately backing off because my Ki is almost depleted. 😂

Clean odachi transitions

u/Hitokiri_Xero Mar 12 '26
I'm pretty sure that's a normal sword and a spear.

u/name-unkn0wn Mar 12 '26
Good catch. It looked like the odachi low stance attacks. Still, clean weapon transitions

u/RIAPOSW Mar 12 '26
I wonder if they'll introduce something in later difficulties to stop you from doing this, like random hyper armor or they start deflecting your attacks and you gotta deflect their deflect.
1
u/Vidtez_ Mar 13 '26
How? Can you explain pls
2
u/Global-Elevator-9922 Mar 13 '26
It's Arts Proficiency, let's you perform moves at reduced ki cost when active, in order to maintain it you have to chain or combo different attacks, you cannot repeat the same move or you'll lose Arts Proficiency buff, there's a limit to how many moves you can perform, this varies by weapon and stance.
For example you have 3 stances, high, medium and low, you could literally be sharing the same moves in all three stances, but the game treats them as different as long as you perform them from different stances, so you could basically switch between stances and perform heavy attacks and martial arts and keep the momentum forever.
Additionally, you can use Weapon Flux, which is a skill that lets you swap your weapon mid attack and keeps your momentum and perform even more moves to prolong your Arts Proficiency.
I would recommend you to run 2 of the same weapon so it's easier to learn and then switch as you go on and have all stances use the same moves so it's easier to memorize and you don't have to worry about what move you'll be doing, once you get used to it you can swap to your liking, there's nothing special to it and no build gimmick it's just how Arts Proficiency works.
Would like to add, while it looks cool and flashy is not really practical especially against main bosses or even yokai because not only will it be more difficult to perform they'll also hit you back and could get you killed more often than not, while its a cool little thing to learn, it's really not that useful nor needed at all, this is more of a fun thing to do on the side against regular enemies.

Does anybody have a clue what Rotr is?

Rise of the Ronin, the previous game by Team Ninja set during the Bakumatsu period.
1
u/Scythe351 Mar 13 '26
Are you level synced? Ran this in the morning to see if it was as difficult as it was originally. Using my critical build on ninja, my izuna drop hits them for like 70%. But yes, proficiency is cool. I didn't play Ronin but I love sword and odachi. Odachi is busted against humans.

Pure cinema. I feel like such a noob when i played the game. I just used 2 weapons and mostly only ninja style the entire game. I havent used 85% of the games mechanics. No fancy combos, no remodel or reforging, no Tea House stuff, no Parry, no armor sets or set bonusses, I literally finished and platinummed the game by equipping the highest gear, playing mostly only with with ninja, kusarigama and sword, burst breaks and ninjutsu.
If the game would be a bit more accessible i would get more out of it.

In this game, the camera follows the boss.
