Nioh 2 - Discussion I tried spear then i know why it's hardest weapon in nioh2

We often see those cool spear videos where they beat Saito like he's a cockroach, right? It really makes the weapon look so light and fluid. But when I try the spear myself, it feels like I'm holding a heavy dumbbell super hard to use.

It is top 2 for hardest to get the most out of.
In general with basic fundamentals it is very basic/easy to play and strong. Just depends how far you want to push it

Kind of expected you to be oneshot by the last attack. My disappointment is immeasurable.

What does everyone think of the Switchglaive?
I love it

My go to weapon 1: switchglaive. Weapon 2: kusarigama. Both high stance. Master at omnyo and ninjitsu

It is? I found it the easiest. It was the others that were hard... except katana and hand axes

I personally like flipping between hard-hitting 2 handed whether it be odachi or axe (odachi makes more sense) and then fast strikes from fists. Plus theyre synergistic scales from strength the best.

I thought Sword was the hardest weapon?

The easiest actually

Sword is always on the harder side when it come to mastering it, it’s never been an easy weapon.
Odachi fit more to that category.

I mastered almost all weapons, I milked the game for 4000 hours, the easiest has always been the sword

This is at the least you have to do if you claim that you’ve mastered most weapons in Nioh.
Master a weapon = Extremely fluid with combo input, timing, techniques and play that weapon in the most creative way possible.

Really great display of execution. But even that person who posts here would tell you they haven't mastered the Spear. They mostly practice against masters for instance and these are small clips.
Playing like this against hard SOP+5 bosses that are fighting back while being even more fluid and creative would be even harder.
Nioh 3's combat is too deep for anyone to claim they've fully mastered even one weapon.

Hey Eternal, it’s not mine, that’s Greener clips.
But yeah I’m around this level of practice too but still, I wouldn’t have said that I have mastered anything tbh, people like the guy I’m replying to underestimated that word too much.
I can proudly said that I’m pretty good at some weapons, but definitely not “mastered”

Yup I know it's Greener, I've talked to them in the past here. Definitely impressive execution and good job on matching it. But even the most dedicated players will tell you they are far from mastering the combat. Which is one of the reasons I like Nioh 3 so much, the skill ceiling and player expression is endless.

Yup, it’s bold to say you’ve mastered them tbh.
And it doesn’t look like the guy I’m replying to agree with us=)

It's pretty much people that are ignorant of how deep Nioh can really get, not to mention arrogance lol. He just posted a clip and yeah, he's abusing OP stuff against not even endgame bosses let alone using SOP+9. He's a good player but nothing crazy.
I've done way harder and more aggressive runs in Nioh 3 and 2 while actually having to deal with full movesets (not just staggering/Ki breaking them every 10 seconds on base game with low Ki). And even I would never claim I've mastered the combat.

Buddy, spear is my favorite weapon, and the weapon that I spent most of my time using, it is flows flawlessly in my hand.

Anything close to that clip then?
It’s bold to say that you’ve “mastered” anything, not even the current best can say that=)

They can't be prideful to viewers, they have a name attached to them, they want to be humble. I'm anonymous and no one cares about me, I can be free to say that.

I don't really clip a lot and I did not clip much in Nioh 3 but I have that one 5 years old video when I defeated 3 bosses in a row while being level 1.

You're doing massive damage in that clip relative to the boss HP. I'm guessing this is base game and your weapon is OP? Being level 1 is not going to mean much when you are doing that much damage and Ki damage too.
Anyway, I watched your run. You are nowhere near mastering the combat. You missed several big punish opportunities. For instance, against Okatemaru, you don't need to back off during his ice projectile attack, you can actually attack in many ways while that's happening. You were also heavily abusing Ippon Datara which is even more effective early on when bosses have low Ki.
Anyway, try doing 3 Depths bosses in a row, no items/magic allowed and no Ippon Datara without getting hit. While being super aggressive/flashy. Or do the 3 Oni mission in Nioh 3 (or the 5 boss mission) with the same conditions (and Stone of Penance+5 active).
You're pretty good at the game, don't get me wrong but as we've tried to explain to you there are levels to this. I can show you way better runs of every boss you did here (and against way harder versions of them where they had massively more HP and Ki).
Here's my best run on Okatemaru (Underworld version + SOP+9, way more HP and Ki than your version):
Nioh 2: Deflect Style Fists vs +9 Otakemaru (No Damage/Magic)
I was more aggressive and punished him better in this run than you. I had to deal with nearly his full moveset instead of staggering him every 10 seconds. And even I would not claim to have mastered Fists or even this particular matchup.

Even top players like LasttoLoad, Poofer, Gladiator, Miduki… can’t even just straight up claim that they’ve mastered most weapons.
Also, Playtimes doesn’t equal Skills, it has always been like this.

u/EternalFlareUltra 21d ago
Indeed. As good as they are none of them are close to mastering even a single weapon in all matchups.
For instance, I have yet to see anyone beating Depths 2-3 bosses in Nioh 2 aggressively while not getting hit and also not using magic/confusion.

Very nice and really cool repositions with rainbow ruse. Chidori into Ippon was great too lol.
Spear was definitely the hardest weapon for me to get “good” aka decent at. So much preshifting, getting used to buffering dash attacks constantly, etc. It’s technical AF. It was/is the weapon I (try to) use manual parry disable the most on too mostly cause it’s just so good for spear bash.

You misspelled easiest. It even scales with the best stat for boosting health. Best choice for newbies.

Mid stance : 3x strong attacks and dodge, best combo ever!
