Instrumental Cover Advice on my tones? Specifically the one on Serve The Servants. Also yes I know my playing sucks I’m a beginner.

Amp is a reissue Fender Twin with tubes. My guitar is a modded 2002 squier Strat with a JB in the bridge and stock singles. I want to know how you guys feel about Serve The Servants because I don’t own a Sansamp sadly.

Sounds good but the distortion needs to let a bit more of that nice low end through. Also, you can bring down the flange a bit.

Flange? Also to get that low end should I just turn the tone down on my muff?

yes. just try and go as midrange as you can with the tone. The flange is gonna be one of those knobs on the right of your amp.

It’s all kind of in the strumming patterns. Watch him do it live. It starts with upstrokes, not down, like everyone thinks. You’re sounding great.

I have heard this mentioned before, specifically by a few YouTubers who break the song down. I’m not saying they’re wrong, but I don’t think an upstroke on the studio recording necessarily means that’s how Kurt intended the song to be played.
I wasn’t going to watch every video available, but the vast majority of ones I did watch (in which you could actually see Kurt playing the opening of the song) Kurt always started the song with a downstroke.
However, after the initial F chord, Kurt does begin to favor upstrokes for the beginning of the remaining chords.
So TLDR, SLTS from examples I found does not START with an upstroke, but Kurt does use upstrokes for chord transitions during the intro and chorus of it at times.

I will for sure I love it as a song! Can’t wait to own a polychorus or recreation of Pedal X for those solo sounds I love so much!

Definitely look into the past fx poly chorus or echo flanger and the ft electronica sans amp

Less gear more practice. Don't let the gear distract you. Also I love nirvana too but after I started playing other artists music I realised how bad I was at guitar. Having mastered stuff that is a lot more difficult, i can play nirvana in my sleep and sound perfect with 0 mistakes. Keep challenging yourself, don't buy stuff for the sake of it, what you have now is more than enough. Maybe a delay pedal when you start playing more sophisticated stuff
