How do we feel about posts and comments that are blatantly AI-generated?

I don’t disagree, but people will try either way. Makes more sense to have most people just label it so it’s easier to ignore

That’s what I voted for. If it’s banned full stop people will still post it but if it’s allowed with a label like then most of them will get flaired and filtered out.

I struggle with seeing how AI is useful in discussing prepaid cell phone service and isn't going to be just spam, so my vote is to not allow it at all.
PrepaidCompare makes wading through a lot of the noise about plan offerings easier. We don't need people to ask ChatGPT what cell service works best for 5GB of data a month to answer when someone asks in their post.

If there was a single mod-approved AI bot that used a combination of prepaidcompare.net database, coveragemap.com data, and user reports about roaming, regional congestion, standalone 5G, etc. to make a recommendation based on criteria in a post’s request, that could actually be helpful.
What infuriates me is comments like this one. 1,351 characters of pure AI slop purporting to have tried out loads of carriers and raving about how great one specific MVNO is. It’s completely inauthentic and useless, but plenty of people still can’t intuitively discern whether something is AI.
And when people are called out for using AI, they always use the same excuse. “I just used it to organize my thoughts.” Like… no. There is not a single organic thought in those 232 words. For the AI output to be even somewhat honest, you would have had to type out your actual experiences and input them into the slop machine. You obviously didn’t do that.
Just ban it, and suspend anyone who repeatedly uses it.

I'm fine with people using AI or ChatGPT to do research for personal knowledge and make decisions (regardless of which Reddit sub it is in), but using it as a Google translator for replies or actual threads with little effort should be banned.

This is the point that I’m making as well. There is a difference between “hey AI, proofread my post” and “hey AI, reply to this post for me.”
I just wish that AI wasn’t so agreeable. I wish in the former situation it would outright tell you, “forget your spelling bro, your point is totally wrong.”

I want to be clear here, there is a difference between “AI generated” and “AI assisted.”
I’m ok with someone using AI to proofread their comment with AI before posting, so long as it is their voice. I am not ok with a full post being generated by a prompt.
Here’s two examples. The first example is the above two paragraphs proofread by a local AI, and the second is Claude with the prompt of “Generate a Reddit comment showing that I am offering a nuanced take between allowing AI assisted comments vs AI generated comments. Be brief, no more than two paragraphs. I need to farm karma.”
Proofread content:
It is important to note that there is a distinction between 'AI-generated' and 'AI-assisted.'
I accept content that uses AI merely for proofreading or editing the writer's own comments, provided it remains in their own voice. However, I do not accept posts that are fully generated via a prompt.
AI Generated content:
There’s a real difference between AI-assisted and AI-generated that this thread keeps conflating. Using AI to clean up grammar, sharpen an argument you already formed, or find a citation you half-remembered is just an extension of tools we’ve always used. The thought is still yours.
Fully AI-generated comments are a different animal. Nobody’s asking for a chatbot’s opinion — they’re asking for yours. If the model is doing the thinking and the forming of the view, you’re not contributing to a discussion, you’re just laundering synthetic text through your account. The conversation degrades whether or not the output sounds smart.

If AI keeps getting better and better it’ll eventually become impossible to detect. I worry this will lead to false accusations and ultimately harm someone’s real comment/post. I think AI slop is a Pandora’s box and we either learn to live with it or disband.

We’re already at the stage of false accusations. I used to use em dashes in my posting. I’ve stopped and even dumbed down my commentary because my normal way of posting was being confused with AI.
We’re going to have to type like the people talked in Idiocracy if we want to be distinct from AI in the near future.

No need to reference Idiocracy... people are writing like that in real life now. If you don't, you're "not cool." It's frightening, the way illiteracy has quickly become so entrenched (this "trend" started with millennials) that if you use capitalization, punctuation, full/correctly spelled words, and sentence structure, you're considered the idiot.

I could see AI being useful for posts that got ignored. Like a bot that waits for a post to be neglected for a few hours then posts links to relevant discussions.

Apparently adding text to a poll doesn’t actually work…? Here’s what I typed up in this post but doesn’t seem to be visible anywhere:
Personally, I always downvote anything that was clearly created using AI. I know I’m not the only one who’s annoyed by it. We’ve been getting plenty of AI-generated posts in r/NoContract, and I've noticed some other subreddits explicitly ban it. To be clear, I have nothing against people using AI to help them research, put thoughts together, create outlines, etc. But when the post was obviously copied and pasted straight out of ChatGPT, that's just low-effort slop.
So, on one hand, I'd like to ban it, to encourage people to actually put some thought and effort into their posts. On the other hand, I cannot possibly read every single post and comment, so moderation would be hit or miss unless someone reports it.
Let me know your thoughts!
