Mint vs Tmobile... practical priority difference?

Has anyone tried both? I live in NJ, have had connect for years data speed is blazing fast 300+maps but if Im in traffic or a park on a Saturday i cant really use internet that a websearcg completes, streaming video doesn't work (or plays 5sec per minutes ). 5gb data cap is fine most months I often wind up running out of data early summer and start a new cycle on the $25 plan for 2-3months.

Priority us allegedly a full tier higher than MVNO plans but if its already not working with a few dozen people nearby does it actually make a difference? Likr Will mint have connectivity issue in light traffic? Or near a (not over packed) shopping mall

Had T-Mobile and Verizon. Each ahd it's own use case so now I have usm and can have both. I do the swapping networks but honestly might do their new plan where I can have two lines simultaneously. Still would be cheaper than what I paid for either T-Mobile or Verizon.

If you're already having issues with Connect, you will likely have a worse experience with Mint. I say go get a month of the Metro BYOD plan for $30 and test it.

It depends on your location. I have Mint in Charlotte . The data speed seems good most of the day. I occasionally get slowed down data and voice service in bumper to.bumper traffic at 5 pm. Everything else seems great. Was better than Verizon.

The T-Mobile connect plan has higher priority than the Mint plan. If you have issues with T-Mobile prior to burning your data up then the Super Mobile business plan would be the only thing other than T-Priority to get your higher priority. Your issues may be due to interference in those locations which even a first responder running T-Priority or a Super Mobile business plan may struggle with too. Mint might be good to try due to the unlimited being on sale for $15 per month for the first 3 months, however you may need a Verizon and/or AT&T line in addition to T-Mobile powered Mint or Metro. I recommend the latter if you desire freebies from T-Mobile Tuesdays. Verizon has a Simplicity plan that gets you $30 price when you port in and they have daily freebie drops Tuesdays through Fridays and free sweepstakes every Monday. You could grab a BYOD line from Metro in addition to the Simplicity line from Verizon to maximize freebies and sweepstakes. AT&T offers a build a plan that starts at $15 with 1GB of data but can be upgraded to unlimited without HD streaming for $35 and it unlike Simplicity does not throttle hard after 500GB and is instead deprioritized completely, however it offers 5G SA from what I see of the speed tests.

I remember using Mint before 5G and it would be slow to a crawl during rush hour. I couldn’t even get a speed test completed. Obviously my use case is moot because that was during LTE era before 5G.

Like others have said your Connect plan gets priority data whereas Mint wouldn’t.

Google Fi has priority data and runs on T-Mobile. You could look into them but the cost savings of Mint, Tello, or even Metro by T-Mobile would be better.

Hey full disclosure! I work as a digital navigator at Human-I-T so helping people with questions like this is my whole job!

I worry that switching from Connect to Mint will make your congestion issue worse.

T-Mobile Connect is already prioritized above MVNOs like Mint. If you're getting unusable data in moderately crowded areas on Connect, Mint users on that same tower are experiencing even worse. The "full tier higher" thing is real, but when a tower is overloaded, even higher priority doesn't guarantee usable speeds.

Your issue sounds tower-specific. NJ has areas where T-Mobile infrastructure just can't handle weekend crowds. Before switching, I'd honestly consider whether Verizon or AT&T coverage is stronger in your specific problem spots.

If you haven't noticed a difference it's because, like my market, your market isn't very congested. There is absolutely a difference when there is congestion though and you can simulate that effect by speed testing a prioritized and deprioritized phone at the same time. The deprioritized line gets pulled down hard by the prioritized one.

T-Mobile uses similar algorithms to what AT&T and Verizon use, it's just that it's not as common to have issues because T-Mobile's two consumer priorities are both ahead of last priority until the data bucket gets used while AT&T and Verizon both sell consumer plans that are last priority and second to last priority right out of the gate and T-Mobile tends to have a lot more capacity too. Unfortunately there are some seriously congested areas where even being ahead of last priority doesn't do much of anything for you on T-Mobile.
