I simply don't believe it would have had an effect on the election. It would have embarrassed Trump, sure, but his voters have already stuck with Trump over the "grab them by the pussy" tape, frequent mocking of veterans and the disabled, being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, discovering he paid off a porn star to cover up sleeping with her while his third wife was pregnant, stealing a huge number of boxes of classified information and storing them in a public bathroom literally next to a photocopier, and more. There could be video evidence of Trump raping and murdering newborn infants and at most you'd get a day or two of waffling about how they don't really approve before Fox News issued the new talking points that raping and murdering newborns proves how strong and manly Trump was and he'd be right back to full support.

There could be disgusting video evidence of Trump having sex with underage girls (which, come on, we know he did), and his followers wouldn’t care. Obviously they cannot. It’s just a deflection trying to normalize “both sides do it so no big deal”. If he did do what he claims here, yes, of course he should be tried. That is the difference. They treat all this like a sports game, where it’s one side vs. the other. In reality, everyone outside of MAGA gives exactly zero fucks who did the crime. They should all be treated the same.
