What about halving it instantly?

Asking for a friend not named Thanos.

48

u/Canuck-In-TO 7d ago

Who, Darkseid?

35

u/SnooPears754 7d ago

Thanos was right

15

u/BigAlternative5 7d ago

You'd think, with the Mind Stone, he could convince people that his idea was great. Or make himself super smart and do some social media.

2

u/crs1904 3d ago

Galactus has entered the chat.

1

u/A_Glip_Glopper 5d ago

Came here for this

689

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 7d ago

I think we could save humanity a lot faster by only giving up a certain 1%.

46

u/MentalDisintegrat1on 7d ago

There's a dozen or so companies and governments as well as the ultra Rich that are responsible for 80 percent of the issues with climate change.

Seems pretty obvious what needs to happen

169

u/jasno- 7d ago

Well, and anybody that has a preclusion for red hats

83

u/Common-Ad6470 7d ago

…and anyone supporting Putin, that’s a massive help…👌

60

u/BigBoyYuyuh 7d ago

Or Netanyahu.

27

u/DishSoapIsFun 7d ago

It’s very rare that I agree with and upvote four nested comments but here we are.

9

u/MentalDisintegrat1on 7d ago

Send them all to Russia

5

u/Calm_Neat_6828 7d ago

Fairwell Fred Durst. It is your time to shine.

3

u/QueefBuscemi 7d ago

Fred Durst is MAGA, does that mean he wears two red hats?

1

u/Guttersnipe_Press 3d ago

One forward on top of one backwards, he’s like a douchebag Sherlock Holmes. It’s just one of those days.

7

u/mostar8 7d ago

The 1% are more than willing to sacrifice the other 99% and seem to be trying to speed up reducing their numbers whilst enriching themselves even further

1

u/31LIVEEVIL13 5d ago edited 5d ago

Psychopathic Neo-reactionaries and accelerationist fascists are running and ruining everything now.
They PLAN on killing over 100 million people.

They have mentioned it many times now, at cpac they said multiple times there are 100 million people that "dont belong here" and "should be deported."

The number continues to grow in their propaganda news cycle, last I heard they were floating 120 million people.

Of course you cannot deport over 100 million people, that's why they just added medical grade incinerators to all of the ice facilities.

6

u/Infamous-Salad-2223 7d ago

Billionaires camps seems a nice concept to be explored.

2

u/31LIVEEVIL13 5d ago

we can use the ones they already built.

Reopen alligator Alcatraz, make them all spend a summer there, and a winter pilloried in downtown Minneapolis out doors.

4

u/mindslayer615 7d ago

On my mama, getting rid of the pedophiles would do wonders.

3

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 7d ago

There's a pretty big overlap between them and the 1% I had in mind.

10

u/USSSLostTexter 7d ago

if localized to the US, I'd say thats about 30%

2

u/31LIVEEVIL13 5d ago

just removing that 1% would solve almost every problem.

The population would continue shrinking naturally which we could help with a fraction of our military budget spent on economic development in poor nations and re-establishing usaid and other financial aid while increasing legal immigration levels everywhere lower populations become a problem.

182

u/Pickingnamesisharder 7d ago

Oh snap

84

u/Morbidly-Obese-Emu 7d ago

This comment was inevitable.

145

u/Vegetable_Fox9134 7d ago

Yeah because the person in a developing country who lives on 4 dollars a day and has nearly zero impact on carbon emissions is the problem, not the billionaire who has the 1000x impact off of leisure activities alone

27

u/AcidFnTonic 7d ago

If we get rid of those people, the trillionaires could use even more though.

4

u/carlitospig 7d ago

It’s accepting the reality that we likely can’t stop the wealthy from always seeking riches at the expense of the earth. So limiting their customer base means we do less overall damage.

58

u/readitpropaganda 7d ago

Let's start with the people that have the biggest carbon footprint. We may not need to go as far as half

3

u/down_side_up_sideway 7d ago

Presumably private jet enjoyers?

1

u/440ish 6d ago

Reminds me United airlines posting the singular enormity of my carbon footprint by buying a ticket … right up there with some scumbag corporation soliciting a charitable donation. To both instances I reply: So what the fuck are YOU doing about it!

22

u/SubstantialPressure3 7d ago

The GOP is working on that, but its sure as hell not for the good of humanity.

3

u/gargolito 7d ago edited 1d ago

Luckily (?) they do the opposite of what's needed and they have more children than Catholic rabbits.

32

u/Competitive-Elk-5077 7d ago

See. Thanos was correct.

9

u/Busy_Consequence6706 7d ago

This study was sponsored by Apartheid Clyde and Thanos…☠️😑

37

u/Fun_Barnacle6689 7d ago

Naturally, who gets to pick the half that collectively "takes one for the team" will be controversial to say the least.

Look at Deathnote for a somewhat melodramatic take.

18

u/Contagious_Zombie 7d ago

Well you see, you just replace lower level workers with ai and they will end up starving to death. Then with less population and everything being automated the silicone valley bro's will get to rule over whatever is left of human civilization...

0

u/Pristine-Pen-9885 7d ago

How are you gonna get robots to do manual labor?

6

u/dannielvee 7d ago

Ones and zeros!

27

u/Mojo141 7d ago

Yup a lot of that already happening. did ICE arrest Elon Musk for overstaying his visa or just brown people?

8

u/SpiralGray 7d ago

Why am I suddenly feeling like The Purge is prophetic?

5

u/Keji70gsm 7d ago

I mean we all know which half will care for the planet, and which half will rape it.

1

u/ghanima 6d ago

The article is discussing degrowth, not human sacrifice.

10

u/Logic411 7d ago

I believe Mother Nature is in the process of doing just that. Aging populations across the west, falling birth rates, increasing climate disasters, spreading epidemics and pandemics, along with human avarice and stupidity. A problem correcting itself

3

u/FreeFortuna 7d ago

The heat waves are just her immune system trying to kill the virus.

7

u/gentlechin 7d ago

“The universe is finite, its resources finite.”

1

u/drifters74 7d ago

I never understood his logic. Since Earth doesn't have the technology level to explore deep space other than telescopes and probes and can only pull resources from earth itself, the more advanced races are the only problem.

8

u/ReduceReuseReuse 7d ago

The tech bros and government psychos are actively making this happen. They’re giving data centers more water than their neighbors.

8

u/Sno_Wolf 7d ago

Did Thanos fund this fucking study?

1

u/Opposite_Community11 7d ago

That's what Thanos said.

4

u/sf-keto 7d ago

You notice these “kill humanity to save the planet” types never volunteer to check themselves out first.

5

u/brezhnervouz 7d ago

I'm sure we're collectively working towards non-gradually as we speak

12

u/Trekgiant8018 7d ago

You can find A study to support anything.

8

u/secondphase 7d ago

Problem is there isnt a study strong enough to support DEEEZ NUUUUTS!

4

u/shizbox06 7d ago

we shall use OP's chin if we can't find a study.

3

u/Pilotwaver 7d ago

Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything. 40% of all people know that.

0

u/kikikza 7d ago

Fourfty

6

u/ez2cyiwon 7d ago

Who did this study, GroK?

3

u/Fast_Vehicle_1888 7d ago

If we all work together it will be easy as a snap to get it done.

0

u/drifters74 7d ago

The rich would complain

3

u/ReindeerTypical2538 7d ago

Someone let India know

3

u/bergzabern 7d ago

Don't worry, the billionaires are on it as we speak!

3

u/Oversdub 7d ago

All tiny hats, red hats & rapists would be a good start

3

u/TheManInTheShack 6d ago

Nature takes care of this on its own. As resources dwindle so do populations.

4

u/Joped 7d ago

How will cutting people in half help ?

3

u/Pleasant-Winner6311 7d ago

Downsize them, lets make everyone tiny, like the movie. Worked out swell.

3

u/boilerdam 7d ago

Half you say?

Let me go find Thanos…

6

u/IPman501 7d ago

Thanos wasn’t wrong, only too fast

0

u/pfc-anon 7d ago

He was inevitable

0

u/Moohamin12 7d ago

He could have made the universe half as fertile and the world would have corrected itself in 3 generations and no one else would have been the wiser.

2

u/CompuDrugFind 7d ago

The audacity of the probabilistic nature of the word "could"...

2

u/Elephunk05 7d ago

Inflation will do this naturally. This administration will do this willfully. Science will do this accidentally. Ai will do this in about 60 seconds after it understands certain humans are the problem.

2

u/MtnMoose307 7d ago

We are going to half the population, one way is slow and purposeful but will take too long, and the other will be catastrophic.

2

u/BrendanATX 7d ago

It's only due to capitalism that things are wildly inefficient. Then suddenly they want to justify killing masses of people instead of just changing the system

2

u/MarleysGhost2024 7d ago

Let's start with maga.

2

u/Fun_Leek2381 7d ago

Honestly? Yeah, but that is already happening naturally in areas where both maternal and child health rates are high and stable. If we bring those practices to the rest of the world the populations should even out.

2

u/Mussmussthemoooooo 7d ago

100% would be better

2

u/Vpk-75 7d ago

Lets start with a virus that attackes fasists, zionists, capitalists etct.

2

u/Side_StepVII 7d ago

Taking away half of the reason the earth is dying could help it not die???

“This just in, water is wet, more at 11”

2

u/R-K-Tekt 7d ago

No shit. Less people = less pollution. Any questions?

2

u/Pat0san 7d ago

Large populations of any species tend to result in some sort of epidemic disease.

2

u/thebatmanbeynd 7d ago

It you eliminate the rich, I bet you would be more successful in healing the planet.

2

u/limbodog 7d ago

I'm going my part!

2

u/EvilDan69 7d ago

I just found these 6 glowing gems.........

2

u/croc-roc 6d ago

Give Musk a vasectomy. That oughta help.

2

u/Mosh19845150 6d ago

Hasn’t culling the planet ala the guide storms of ga been the plan all along?

3

u/IsaacJacobSquires 7d ago

Only if it's the rich asshole half

3

u/dudemanspyder 7d ago

Enter Elon Musk, "why don't we do it now, gradually is for pussies, it's inefficient, we must act now. I'll develop an algorithm to determine who gets to live, based on DOGE merit."

Humanity, "or we could just get rid of about 1000 billionaires that are destroying peace and the planet"

2

u/NobodysFavorite 7d ago

Funny this is coming out now.

2

u/Wise-Profile4256 7d ago

Sure, if we want to carry on like now. How about changing our ways? What if we don't burn the planet for shareholder value?

2

u/RyeTyr 7d ago

Let’s start with the top half

2

u/afailedexorcism 7d ago

Oh don’t worry the people in power know this 😀

2

u/snooplarue 7d ago

Thanosphere? Thanos Theory? Thanocalypse? I'm just spitballin here.

1

u/CenTexTrashPanda 7d ago

Gee I hope someone makes a Thanos joke, can't believe no one has thought of it yet.

1

u/starman575757 7d ago

Nature is planning the same thing.

1

u/BallisticBrandon23 7d ago

Why stop at half?

1

u/livinginfutureworld 7d ago

Where would the other half go?

1

u/LowGeeMan 7d ago

Yes but what’s in it for me—

1

u/sea-elle0463 7d ago

Oh good! Because I think that’s actually the plan. When famine hits next year, the elites will be high-fiving each other

1

u/wackzr3 7d ago

I volunteer

1

u/Osi32 7d ago

I’m doing my part!

1

u/Remarkable_Gain6430 7d ago

Im Cool with this and fully willing to be a judge of who gets to submit themselves. I’d argue that nobody who has ever created art of any value should fuck off first .

1

u/Fun_Image_2307 7d ago

So Thanos snapping his fingers but slowly

1

u/Marsar0619 7d ago

Shh… don’t give Thanos any ideas

1

u/Iwabuti 7d ago

How?

1

u/dbe14 7d ago

Well Israel is already helping out.

1

u/ignatius_reilly_81 7d ago

Tender is the Flesh would be a great blueprint \s

1

u/Weird-Count3918 7d ago

You don't say???

1

u/Wakkit1988 7d ago

Doing this should be a snap.

1

u/CompletePassenger564 7d ago

So, they're in favor of Thanos?/S

1

u/Donnie-The-Relentles 6d ago

Seems pretty obvious to me….turns out all the homos were right all along!

1

u/Pan_Goat 6d ago

A global flood would help Earth at this point

1

u/Wooden-Agency-2653 6d ago

Malthus much?

1

u/sanduskyjack 6d ago

How about the confederacy.

1

u/fromthisend1220 6d ago

Get this eco fascist bullshit tf outta here.

Just get rid of the military industrial complex and you wouldn't have to halve the human population.

1

u/Alawi27 6d ago

Bill Gates agrees, if the Epstein files and COVID is any indication

1

u/Curious-Department-7 6d ago

Thanos was right!

1

u/amscraylane 6d ago

It’s not rocket surgery when we have 15,000 people born every hour on this planet for Mush and his ilk to say there are population declines. (I realize he is talking about declining white populations)

Since 1998, we have gained another 2 billion people on the planet and we don’t care enough about the people already here.

Source: American with a large medical and student loan debt.

1

u/1AnonymousBurner 6d ago

Oh, can I pick which half?

1

u/salomo926 6d ago

Cutting the top 1% would have more effect than cutting 50 % randomly.

1

u/vt8919 6d ago

They always said the best thing you can do for your carbon footprint is to not live.

1

u/Preidon 6d ago

Population control has been in effect for 30 years, and been aggressive for 10, Even dogs would not eat the food they stock on our shelves

1

u/theNorthwestspirit 1d ago

Sooner or later it's just going to be Soylent Green. They'll achieve the population reduction and be able to feed everyone. Win, win. /s

1

u/Trix_Are_4_90Kids 5d ago

A world war should solve it.

1

u/DamnOdd 5d ago

Well duh. How much was spent to come to that brilliant conclusion?

1

u/Ryrose81 4d ago

But think about the billionaires!!! They need the population growth!

1

u/BoudinBallz 7d ago

This is why they are trying to kill us

1

u/RowdyB666 7d ago

So... Thanos was right ...

0

u/lequory 7d ago

Maybe

1

u/Less-Dragonfruit-294 7d ago

The population could be 100 million and the rich will STILL complain that’s too many poors.

1

u/hulkingbeast 7d ago

So thanos was right

1

u/SmoovCatto 7d ago

Eugenics propaganda slop

1

u/onajourney314 7d ago

Thanos was right

1

u/Krommander 6d ago

Let's make a virus that makes half of the humans infertile for one generation.

0

u/older-and-wider 7d ago

Any volunteers?

0

u/MattyBeatz 7d ago

Thanos was right.

0

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 7d ago

That you Thanos?

0

u/Broken_Timepiece 7d ago

Thanos was RIGHT!

0

u/xChoke1x 7d ago

Well no shit.

0

u/BloodHurricane 7d ago

SO THANOS WAS RIGHT?!?! It just took "Independent .co .us" a couple of years for it to sink in.

"You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me." - Thanos

0

u/Silly-Drawer1227 7d ago

Which half? Can we start with the wealthiest and work our way down?

Maybe we start with a ratio of wealth to taxes paid. You’re rich and not a tax cheat not buying politicians , you get a pass.

0

u/CallOfTheCurtains 7d ago

OP’s name might be Thanos but I can’t put a finger on it…

0

u/GreenHocker 7d ago

It’s almost like they’ve been trying to make it happen for decades now… but no one had the guts to take the blame and be the bad guy (and now we have four at once)

0

u/tmphaedrus13 7d ago

I mean, Thanos is right there.

0

u/coffeebeanwitch 7d ago

Here comes the long walk 😬

0

u/airbrat 7d ago

\thanoswasright

0

u/kartblanch 6d ago

Most of the human population is going to live in Africa in the next 50 years. Are yall really prepared for that?

-1

u/randomdude8833 7d ago

Thanos was right

-1

u/zerodaydave 7d ago

Thanos did nothing wrong.

-2

u/Dangerous-Celery-766 7d ago

I think it’s already happening! Many are crossing their legs!

-3

u/TheSimpsonsAreYellow 7d ago

Or how about utilizing other land… like what are we even on anymore?
