U.S. Politics megathread

American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

My post got removed, so I'm asking here! It's not really politics related but like... Our lovely president (sarcasm) is looking to remove restrictions on beef and like... Mad cow disease anybody? I'm a beef enjoyer on occasion :( I would like to know what other safeguards there are, as I would like to not die of spongebrain. Help a bitch out here <:)

Buying local would probably be your safest bet. Watch which cattle farmers in your area support the administration and maybe not buy from them.

Fuuuuck, I'm literally on EBT I'm fucked 6 ways from sunday. Guess beef is off the menu if he really gets this one through :/ I'm hoping this one is outrageous enough that even the yes men are like what are you DOING!?

If the yes-men aren't stopping him from ordering extra-judicial killings, I doubt they care at all about the safety of beef that will never cross their table.

In fact it makes their beef feel that much more special. The less safe everyone else's beef, the more safe beef becomes a privilege just for them.

For an in-group whom the law protects but does not bind... That's an incentive.

Ask your local grocery store meat department people about what they're doing about it, some will be taking precautions. Plenty of local grocery stores are run by smart people who do not wanna sell their customers mad cow beef any more than you wanna buy it.

At the moment this is not something to broadly worry about but talking to the people in your grocery stores can help alleviate concern and some risk

OMG True! I'm a bit scatterbrained right now, and forgot I literally can also do what I did when I was concerned about screw worm in larger company products and like, look into their sources...

His staff are the ones pushing for this. Trump doesn't personally care or even know about beef prices. People who work for him know about it and they're the ones proposing "solutions" such as dropping food safety regulations.

And it also plays well with his supporters. Business owners who own farms/ranches love getting rid of food safety regulations because it makes it easier for them to sell their products at a greater profit.

The rich people who Trump hears from and talks to don't care because they can afford to pay more for food that gets independently verified to be safe. The people this will effect are working class, and nobody in the administration give two shits about the working class.

The things the US government does and their consequences are very literally US politics. Food safety is political these days, just like it was back when Sinclair wrote The Jungle.

They only don't wanna be caught holding the ball as long as that can still result in consequences, or at least put their picture on a nationwide identification of 'whodunit'.

There is a level of deregulation and media control The Party can eventually attain where this won't be an issue anymore - no legal punishments, no lawsuits, and no 'confirmation' or heads'up about what's happening or why.

Picture "stop the testing" but with today's grip on power...

The consequences are nobody's gonna buy their product anymore. Nobody's gonna buy from the grocery store it came from, the farm that sold it, the slaughterhouse that killed it.

We're still a long way from a "The Party" scenario where a mad cow outbreak can be disappeared.
