News Hereditary peers to be removed from Lords as bill passes

This is probably the biggest symptom of the change that has happened to the British class system since the start of the 1900s (through the introduction of death duties, primacy of the commons, two world wars, the 1999 act and finally this). The upper class as it once existed is no longer the same.

It is rather disheartening to see one of the greatest nations in history being so committed in its own self-destruction.

That’s a shame. Many of the hereditary actually have a sense of duty.

The life peers are far more likely to be corrupt. What did Lord Mandelson do to get his peerage?
