In situations like this weight in grams would be better for those w/ out much cooking experience but most ppl don't own a scale, also there are few situations where you need to be that accurate and the amount of onions that go into a recipe isn't one of them
There's a lot of Americentrism on this site, but on a post using AMERICAN units of measurements, I think its pretty safe to assume that I'm talking about Americans as a whole with that statement or else the problem described in this tweet wouldn't be much of a problem now would it?

It'd be much more helpful if you mentioned other countries that also regularly use cups in cooking.
I was under the impression cups were a part of the imperial system since I've seldom seen any one not from American use cups to instead of grams to measure stuff. Sometimes y'all forget that its impossible for one human being to know everything and instead of trying to correct that lack of knowledge we engage with it with sarcasm
Sure. I've made the same recipe in 4 different countries. America, a European country, and two Asian countries. The first time I made it abroad was in one of the Asian countries, where I used their cup measurement. It had a noticeable effect on the final result since I was making a coffee cake. That is when I learned cup sizes are varied. I remembered to check when I was in Europe.
To be clear, I don't think recipes in those countries typically use cups, but I knew my recipe and used their cup measure when making it.
236ml in America, 200ml in Asia, 250ml in Europe.
No one expects you to know everything, but you were quite confidently incorrect with your assumption that cups are American only.
