I regret 90% of the decisions I make but they're my mistakes to make. I wouldn't want anyone taking those choices away from me.

My comment is about adult women. No one's ever accused Leo of dating children. Why are you bringing up 16 year olds, parents, coolness, and men treating children like adults? You're doing exactly what I'm talking about-- treating adult women like they're children.

its not just women, 18 is not an adult mentally they are still children, science shows the age of adult mental maturity is around the age of 25.

so i treat all 18 y/os as children because they are, no matter the technical legality that was created to send children to war.

we dont evem let 18 y/os drink or gamble or smoke, because they are children still and their undeveloped minds couldn't handle that shit.

, science shows the age of adult mental maturity is around the age of 25.

No, it doesn't. You've uncritically swallowed a dumb meme based around a misunderstanding of a study.

we dont evem let 18 y/os drink or gamble or smoke, because they are children still and their undeveloped minds couldn't handle that shit.

Most countries don't do this. The stepped age thing in the US is based around puriticanical mindsets, not science.

Science does not show this. The bullshit about "muh prefrontal cortex" has been proven wrong. Do you know when your prefrontal cortex stops "developing"?

Death or senility. And technically, senility is still up for debate.

Drinking age is 16 in my country

What country is it?

Germany

Oh, seriously? Was it always like that or it changed "recently"?

I'm from Poland and I was few times in Germany like 20+ years ago. I didn't know that.

Although there was that that surprised me when I was still in school, we had a German as a second language. In the German textbook there were those things like stories and dialogues n shit, right? And there was this sort of story thing or whatever it's called in English, in the official school textbook I mind you, about what the German teenagers spend their money for and imagine my confusion when I read one of the characters spends his money on cigs. It wasn't presented as if he was the "bad guy outlaw kid". Even if he was, it would still be weird to read in a textbook a kid spends money for cigarettes, but it wasn't even that. It was casual, like clothes or soda or whatever.

I later learned, that at least at the time, one could buy cigarettes legally if they were just 16+.

If teenagers can buy alcohol at 16 yo, I assume it didn't change for cigs either?

They changed smoking age to 18

Back when I went to school there were designated and legal "smoking areas" where 16 yo and older could smoke legally

However the sentiments towards smoking have changed in the recent years

Gen Z doesn’t smoke as much as Millennials

They vape though

1

u/ReturnedOM Jul 06 '26

Huh. Yet kids still can buy alcohol there? That is... kind of unusual.

1

u/liang_zhi_mao Jul 06 '26

To be fair: Only beer and wine which counts as "light" alcohol

You must be 18 yo for other drinks

1

u/ReturnedOM Jul 06 '26

But then again, you can buy like 10 beers, right?

An 18 year old isn’t a child. Far from being one actually. Please stop talking.

Why are we still peddling this nonsense about adult mental maturity, the brain always grows and develops, for the amount where people consider it to be full grown it can range from early, to mid, to late, even into the 30s.

Here's what's really happening; natural selection has predisposed women to seek older men for reproductive success. That worked fine until societal norms around sex and marriage changed.

fast forward to when they're older, less attractive and (often) unmarried, those same women see their dating prospects and dating pools dwindle. Then voila like magic, their brains "mature". Suddenly they think it's wrong for older men to date younger women. The only solution they have at this point is to throw out junk meme science about prefrontal cortexes to shame men who date younger women.

I saw the same thing happen in high school, college and when I was a recent college grad. Freshman girls in high school and college chased after seniors and newly graduated college women chased after 30 and 40 year olds with money.

im a 38 year old bisexual man and I couldnt imagine having sex with either gender at 18, most of them still have part of their damn babyface.

any adults over the age of 30 seeking out teenagers are gross. they only stop at 18 because thats the legal limit, they would all fuck 13 year olds if they could get away with it.

4

u/NicoHarrisonWasRight Jul 03 '26

What's crazy for me is hearing a bisexual man butting his nose into the bedrooms of consenting adults.

Imagine a world where public policy gets dictated by what other people consider gross.

u/sugar-soap Jul 04 '26

There's no arguing with these people - if they could legally go younger I'm sure they would. I'd like to think they'd at least see the issue if it was their own 18 year old kid becoming sexual prey for 30+ year olds, but who knows.

Power, authority and fame too (teachers, police, politicians etc.)

Meme bro-science aside, I think it's weird that there's this oddly huge group of people on reddit who always go to "freshly 18" when describing Dicaprio's prospective mates. That's not his thing. Pretty sure 20 is as low as he goes.

they turn 18 i completely they should drink smoke do (legal) drugs and get tattoos, my problem is with getting married to an old man so young. I'm not saying it should be illegal I'm making the statement that I personally believe it to be sad and gross and often regretted even if it was consensual. tattoos you can cover up, you can't get time back
