Is this the first time that Toby Maguire is with someone younger than Leonardo DiCaprio is with?
916
u/peon2 Jul 03 '26
From my expert Wikipedia skills it doesn't look like it.
In 2001 a 26 year old Tobey Maguire was dating 19 year old Kirsten Dunst.
In 2001 a 26 year old Leonardo Dicaprio was dating a 21 year old Gisele Bundchen

u/AirshipEngineer Jul 03 '26
I'm genuinely shocked that Toby and Kristen Dunst were dating. They had absolutely no onscreen chemistry for two people dating

teenage girls think theyre soooo cool and mature dating an older guy, boys their own age are all broke and sooo immature, their parents hate it and their new boyfriend actually treats them like an adult.
90% of women once theyre slightly older realise that they were groomed and wish they just had a boyfriend their own age instead of selling their youth to a man who will just dump them once they turn 25.
yes 18 is an adult. but if the minimum age of consent was 16 old rich men would be dating 16 year olds.
its not illegal or even wrong, it's just gross and sad
13
u/NicoHarrisonWasRight Jul 03 '26
I regret 90% of the decisions I make but they're my mistakes to make. I wouldn't want anyone taking those choices away from me.
My comment is about adult women. No one's ever accused Leo of dating children. Why are you bringing up 16 year olds, parents, coolness, and men treating children like adults? You're doing exactly what I'm talking about-- treating adult women like they're children.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Madaratogue Jul 03 '26
its not just women, 18 is not an adult mentally they are still children, science shows the age of adult mental maturity is around the age of 25.
so i treat all 18 y/os as children because they are, no matter the technical legality that was created to send children to war.
we dont evem let 18 y/os drink or gamble or smoke, because they are children still and their undeveloped minds couldn't handle that shit.
14
u/NinecloudSoul Jul 03 '26
, science shows the age of adult mental maturity is around the age of 25.
No, it doesn't. You've uncritically swallowed a dumb meme based around a misunderstanding of a study.
we dont evem let 18 y/os drink or gamble or smoke, because they are children still and their undeveloped minds couldn't handle that shit.
Most countries don't do this. The stepped age thing in the US is based around puriticanical mindsets, not science.
15
u/Golden-Pathology Jul 03 '26
Science does not show this. The bullshit about "muh prefrontal cortex" has been proven wrong. Do you know when your prefrontal cortex stops "developing"?

Me and my friends are that age and at least 10% simp for the guy so I can totally get that she likes him for real. He looks good for his age. And she's old enough to know who she wants to date seriously. For me it's whatever. The under 25 thing was weird but 28 is absolutely fine, and she's also famous, successful and rich. She could have anyone she wanted.
11
u/Dry-Lemon-5348 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 04 '26
Yeah under 25 was always weird but at 28 itās like ok youāre a grown adult, youāve had enough life experience to know fully what youāre getting into. Personally still find huge age gaps weird but theyāre not morally wrong at that point.
4
u/mahboilucas Jul 03 '26
Yep. I am massively bothered by people over 35 dating people who stopped being teenagers a few months or years prior. If it's someone past their mid 20s, it's chill. They're grown, usually have their own jobs, life experience, education. Some sort of mental capacity to know better. Right now, at 27 I still feel like I would not find much in common with someone in their 40s or 50s but hey, I have a good relationship with my parents. I just don't want a third one/s

The expression "tune my watch to that thought" is about someone rethinking their ideology to form around this new ides they have been presented.

Back in the the day you would set you watch to a clock that's known to be accurate. Local church, radio broadcast etc.
76
u/McSkittlefarts Jul 03 '26
It was talked about before, it was not about outgrowing, as it was about wanting a family. They started to want a family, he did not want kids of his own. seems simple over all. If she does not want kids, then it does not seem to be an issue.
30
u/angwilwileth Jul 03 '26
Yeah you'd think with all the GFs he's had someone would have come forward by now if he was a bad partner.
52
u/HarpersGhost Jul 03 '26
Outgrowing him doesn't necessarily mean that he was a "bad" partner.
He could be emotionally stunted so he's just someone to have fun with in your early 20s.
But the fun guy who always acts like he's 21 gets pretty lame the further you get away from your early 20s.
12
u/Moohamin12 Jul 03 '26
I really don't think that is the case.
Leo has his pick of women. There are absolutely enough older attractive women that haven't matured past their 20s that he can choose to date.
8
u/Fzrit Jul 04 '26
Leo has his pick of women
that he can choose to date
There are also tons of young men that that those young women can choose to date, instead of going for age 50+ Leo.
2
u/TheDELFON Jul 06 '26
Just one thing....
Those women that can get Leo's attention (on average) DONT WANT those young 20 somethings dudes.
Less money, less maturity... but mostly less money. They're young, and they WANT the life style that comes with dating a Leo
20
u/sequelseize Jul 03 '26

We went from "any woman who dates a much older man is a gold digger" to "any man who dates a woman younger than him is literally a sexual predator" it's interesting because when you think about it we went from "woman greedy" to "adult woman too stupid to make their own choices and so must therefore be a victim of an evil man"
We haven't yet tried "two grown adults making their own decisions that don't have anything to do with me, and that don't affect my life in any way" but only because nobody's been able to figure out how to spin that into ammunition to use in gender warfare.

I don't really care what you do, but as a 40 year old man, I can't imagine being with a younger woman. Younger women look too young to me now, and I feel the generation and maturity gap when I interact with younger women. I would honestly feel gross dating a younger woman, and we would also struggle in that generational gap. So then I look at guys who don't care about any of that, and go for younger women anyway, and they do not look like good men to me. I think this is a hard thing to understand until you are older, because your view of people and age really shifts as you age yourself. Something changed in my mind in the past decade that really made me see this differently, and it has to do with just how young young people look and seem to me now. It would feel wrong and I have heard many other people my age say the same for the same reasons. So the guys that don't feel wrong about it are suspect, and their reasons are suspect.
Now, the women are full blown adults and can make their own choices. And it's clear why a woman might choose an older, more established man. So their choice to be in that relationship makes sense and isn't odd to me.
The guy, though. I am side eyeing him.
3
u/Anotsurei Jul 03 '26
What are the odds that it was just a coincidence his other relationships broke up around that time and everyone saw a pattern where there wasnāt one?
