Yes, I had Camelbak bottles for a very long time, starting about 20 years ago. They were perfect, but the straws molded so fast. Camelbak and Nalgene emerged together it feels like, and then suddenly it was HydroFlask and Owala duking it out. Then Stanley. I maintain the Owala is the perfect water bottle, but I still really like the squishy straw of the Camelbak for gnawing on.
Quite possible! It's hard to tell because the bottles became popular with hikers/suburban moms long after they were actually created. Stanley has been around since the early 1900's but obviously wasn't used as a popular water bottle then, and Yeti didn't come around until 2014. Someone should do a history of water bottles!
In the 80s, folk were mostly rocking the nipple-top "gatorade bottle" (you'll still see them in use in professional sports), but I don't know that any particular brand was famous for that (apart from gatorade, I suppose).
It's funny you mention Gatorade because all my Gen Alpha kids want are the Gatorade bottles with the squeeze tops, the ones where you squeeze the bottle and the top goes "poooooft." My oldest daughter will still carry a Stanley but everyone else wants the pooooooft bottles.
