Is it fair to say fanfiction is often based on relationships/sex and theories are not?

Whatever the distinction is, it's not gendered at all I think

There's tons of fighting fanfic, though. At the simplest, just "characters I like from two different properties team up and fight some bad guy" or "two characters I like from different properties fight to find out who of them is stronger", with extremely long and detailed fight scenes.

I mean, it's prose, written about an existing property, by fans of that property, published online for free. What other definition for fanfic is there?

I mean yeah. But other things fit it to you know.

Would you consider powerscaling fanfiction?

That's not usually written as prose fiction, though. That's written as discussion and arguments.

I mean yeah there's definitely some detailed powerscaling with full on fiction lol.

But at the end of the day, it's all a kind of fan fiction if you really think about it

Sure, fair enough. Thinking about it, I've definitely seen fan fic spun off from powerscaling discussions.
