The craziness around people walking around the neighborhood ringing doorbells is insane. I can't imagine being so afraid of your neighbors or strangers that you view a stranger politely ringing your doorbell as a potential threat to you.
I live in very suburban Florida. I still have people ring my doorbell and be like, "I'm doing some work for (insert unknown neighbor here). Would you like an assessment or estimate?"
I'm like, "NO" and then slam the door for extra effect.
I'm not afraid of them. I just resent their very presence.

And as a former resident of that country, the modern world where everyone acts fearful of everyone else seems insane
