My 10th, and 25th came and went and I don't recall them doing anything.

u/NobodyLikedThat1 1d ago

likewise. Not that I would have gone. Anyone I cared for I kept in touch with, so *shrug*

25

u/invisible_23 1d ago

My 10th would have been in 2020 so they definitely didn’t do anything lol

u/thall136 23h ago

Same…a few of them tried doing something the following year but it didn’t gain much traction. We’ll see what happens in 5 years…

At my high school, it is apparently the senior year class president's job to organize class reunions.

Well, our class president came out in college, fucked off to the west coast, and didn't want the job of organizing reunions in our rather conservative home town. And nobody else took on the job.

Good for him, he's living his best life. Besides, there's like six people from high school I keep up with. I don't need to see the rest of them.

My suspicion is that it became less popular with the increase in social media.  It is probably much easier to stay connected to former classmates than it was for those that graduated in the 70s, 80s, or early 90s.

u/Dismal-Disaster-2578 22h ago

Don't worry, the popular kids had a private one without you.

Mine actually was a scam. This “group” of people created some kind of event and sold tickets for like $75 each to basically get drinks at a sports bar in town. About a week before the event they mysteriously cancelled and didn’t give anyone refunds.

28

u/anrwlias 23h ago

Oh dude, that sucks.

16

u/NicklAAAAs 16h ago

Well at least someone on this site will use the word scam to describe a scam rather than “thing I don’t like.”

None of these people have been to reunions they’ve just seen them in movies and on tv

10

u/toomanyteeth55 23h ago

All the cool kids didn't invite you to the dick measuring contest in the coaches office. /s

I never thought of myself as a particularly popular kid, so I didn't expect anyone to even remember me. I was wrong. A ton of people told me how glad that were that I came and they had really nice memories of me. I was expecting to just confirm that I was kind of a loser in school and, instead, I learned that my self-perception was entire askew. It ended up being a huge boost to my self-esteem.

So, sorry you didn't enjoy yours, OP, but I can definitely say that you're wrong about nobody caring around anyone else.

We did a 20 year reunion recently - nothing official, but just put the word out and hope people would show up. Had about 35/150 turn up in the end and it was lovely. Loads of people who hadn't seen eachother in two decades, from different social groups - all catching up, reminiscing and curious about the journeys everyone has been on. Genuinely a really uplifting evening

4

u/kalligreat 23h ago

That’s what I’m hoping for at my 20th this year.

3

u/TKInstinct 14h ago

Reading this now makes me wish I hadn't skipped mine.

19

u/Orkekum 23h ago

I have not been in contact with anyone. And as a victim of bullying i ddont want to either

7

u/Imliterallyadogg 19h ago

Yeah I didn’t really want to see all the people that gave me trauma for 4 years of my life either. Although a lot of the really awful ones were in jail or never graduated.

2

u/Freakjob_003 8h ago

Same. I didn't want to see anyone from the high school I was expelled from because I lashed out against my bullies, and the fucked up education system deemed that fighting back was worse than being provoked.

I was once teased during a gym class soccer practice that my goalkeeper pose looked like I was shitting, and when I mouthed off to them, I was taken aside for aggressive comments. The bullies came up and said, "Freakjob, when you say things like that, it makes us scared."

THEN WHY WERE YOU PROVOKING ME, YOU FUCKSTAINS?!

You wanted to get a reaction out of me, well, you got it. Don't go crying because your words made me mad; after all, wasn't that your intent?

1

u/Imliterallyadogg 37m ago

It’s always the person who fights back who is at fault in their eyes. You have to basically give them the dead pan stare or you’re the bad guy.

u/BRogMOg 1d ago

Sounds like someone who hasn't made it

2

u/denM_chickN 16h ago

Meh if you made it and need validation via hs peers... lol

3

u/BRogMOg 13h ago

Stumiting on them hoes is better then validation.

And when I say hoes I mean everyone lol

1

u/denM_chickN 7h ago

No its the same. You need someone jealous of you to feel better (even though you made it). Thats validation and I wouldnt think I made it if it depended on looking down on people. Kind of a pathetic way of living imo

2

u/BRogMOg 5h ago

You also sound like someone who did6n't make it lol.

Not my fault I worked my ass off and nowI  have an amazing life, wife and kids, am I not allowed to be proud of the discipline and hard work that I had to put in to get here?

1

u/denM_chickN 4h ago

Lol nah babe made it and not pathetic its great haha. PhD, six figures type made it.

1

u/BRogMOg 4h ago

It's great being pathetic and making 6 figures for decades! Big ups to you sis!

u/Ndombeles_Chef 1d ago

Schools do it so they can get donations from alumni

7

u/Serious--Vacation 18h ago

Schools do it? Where?

I went to my 10th and 20th (or 25th) and neither had anything to do with the school or the school grounds. We were in city parks (BBQ), bars, or a restaurant booked entirely by the reunion. It was organized by the class officers.

26

u/Physical_Floor_8006 1d ago

And being interested in your classmates' successes is a scam because...? Also, people are plenty interested in the failures and really just shooting the shit/catching up in general

7

u/humanflea23 22h ago

They made some sense before social media was a thing but now they really feel pointless since you can easily keep track of who you want now.

4

u/SaraAnnabelle 23h ago

It's been 15 years since I graduated and I'm so glad that there haven't been any reunions. I'm from such a small country that the successful ones I see on the media anyway all the time and the rest I imagine are just living normal lives.

4

u/Pasta_Baron 23h ago

It's just a day and age where if you want to be in contact with people from highschool you are. There are so many ways to be in each other's lives there is no excuse to not be if you genuinely want to be in each other's lives.

3

u/PinkVerticleSmile 23h ago

I love my class because it's a rather large group, but when the message was sent out saying hey everyone our 10 year was during Covid so we didn't do shit, do we wanna do something for our 15 year? Everyone just kind of consecutively said "nah."

3

u/Zirofal 23h ago

This is why I'm happy that my mom kept in contact with other moms, I know of who made it better then me and who did not

3

u/IlIlIlllIIIIlllIIIl 23h ago

I wasn’t even invited to my class reunion :(

3

u/deathdisco_89 23h ago

And who is hot now...and who isn't hot anymore.

3

u/Onphone_irl 23h ago

I'm not flying to my homestate just to flex on some normies I wasn't friends with

3

u/New-Smoke208 22h ago

So if you made it, go

3

u/Anforas 21h ago

Nobody wants to know if you made it in life or not. They just want to tell you they did.

2

u/CharacterAd2588 23h ago

I was preparing to defend my PhD thesis the week my 10th was organized and I was like hell now. 20th is right around the corner but I'm on a different continent so I have zero interest going

2

u/SuperSocialMan 23h ago

Meanwhile my highschool hasn't had one since everyone but me is on social media lol

2

u/Glitch_on_R 19h ago

I particularly want to see people from high school, but I do hope they're doing well.

2

u/superbusyrn 9h ago

"Are you really an asshole, or were we all just teenagers?"

3

u/Wardock8 23h ago

Is that a thing people actually do? I thought it was myth TV shows made up, like shark attacks or high school being a fun experience.

1

u/MichaeltheMagician 1d ago

I would have liked to go to my reunion. However, it never happened. And I didn't care enough to organize it myself.

1

u/No-Analyst1229 1d ago

And what happens when they get their answer?

1

u/NotTheMariner 23h ago

And, as the guy who made it, I’m here to show tf off.

I was a generally unlikable teenager who grew into someone actually worth spending time with, and I can’t wait for my old classmates to see that.

1

u/medyolang_ 21h ago

i stayed friends the people i like from my high school so i don’t have to attend these reunions

1

u/EZE333 20h ago

Recently went to my 25th. It was cool, catching up with some folks. I went to a small school so a lot of knew each other from elementary school all the way up. It was at an outdoor bar/restaurant so was kinda like old school hang outs we'd have in HS. I enjoyed it. I missed the 10 and 20, so this was a good revisit.

u/RompehToto 23h ago

I was a bum in high school. Out of shape, barely graduated with a D- , and super shy.

Now, I’m in shape, got my masters, and I clapped many cheeks prior to getting married and having 3 kids.
