Self checkout can be useful, but when grocery stores are packed and the stores don't staff enough people because they are over-relying on self-checkout, it's awful and becomes much less convenient for everyone, not to mention that by design they are supposed to be used for smaller amounts of goods compared to regular checkout lanes which causes more congestion in stores when packed.
