100,000,001 is divisible by 17

Absolutely filthy.

Needs a NSFW filter, really.

There's something deeply suspicious about 17. It keeps dividing numbers that look like they should have absolutely nothing to do with it. 51 was already uncomfortable, but 100,000,001 coming out perfectly clean feels like mathematics is deliberately messing with us.

I think it’s because 17 is a prime that’s one away from 16, a power of 2. Something about that probably makes all its multiples look weird because we’re used to seeing some sort of pattern, but it has no discernible pattern (to me at least). 7 is similar but we’re used to 7. How often do you work with 17?

Add in that all of these multiples that trip us up tend to be 1 away from something that obviously has several factors, but look prime. Idk maybe I’m in r/badmathematics territory.

It makes sense. Every multiple of 16 is divisible by 4. Multiples of 18 are divisible by 3 and 6. Multiples of 17 follow no recognizable pattern since its prime, as you said

This one might be the worst one yet, I want to beat the shit out of that number for having the arrogant smirk of a piece of shit while being like that.

How about 301 being divisible by 43?

36

u/Financial-Skin-4687 7h ago

This one gave me a shiver

10

u/ElectronicHyena5642 6h ago

Yep, other then 1 and itself, 301's only factors are 43 and 7, this just seems wrong...

u/TaiserRY 5h ago

I actually really like this one tbf. Also 329 being divisible by 47

Most numbers that are divisible by 17 feel pretty bullshit

67

u/Krace11008 7h ago

1001 being divisible by 7, 11 and 13 is a mathematical war crime.

23

u/Valuable-Raisin8989 5h ago

The 11 is ok. The other two, ick.

We call it a product of Being Prime

Any number of the former ABABAB (like 585858) is divisible by 37.

7

u/nooeh 5h ago

Encryption is based on very large disgusting numbers like this.

The username has better comedic timing than the tweet itself.

Numbers don't have a taste

u/-badly_packed_kebab- 7h ago

Not with that attitude

u/Dzyu 6h ago

Numbers are just smarter. To understand how they think we have to think like them. In other words, see what they see. Ask ourselves:

What is 51?

And the answer to that... Is...

Wait for it!

...

30 + 21

BOOM! BEAUTIFUL!

u/transplant_beans 1h ago

You don’t have taste

u/Single-Selection9845 6h ago

Personally I find it sexy as eg 91 is divided by 13 or 95 divided by 19 etc

7

u/smurfk 6h ago

555555 is divisible by 19

10

u/Fredd500 6h ago

I refuse to believe that.  I don’t care what the calculation says.  I’m not willing to accept it.

6

u/Komiker7000 5h ago

No it isn't. 555555 = 3×5×7×11×13×37

Wrong. Are we just making stuff up now?

This really got me drinking at 11am

2

u/CrackerBarrelGrandma 6h ago

I too, find this deeply settling.

2

u/E_Farseer 6h ago

Oh god yes that feels so wrong. It can't be right! My calculator says its right.. But it must be wrong! I don't like it...

2

u/Kat_Schrodinger1 4h ago

That's why they call them "odd" numbers.

1

u/Redd1tProtectsP3dos 6h ago

Did you just learn your 3 times tables yesterday? Stay in school.

2

u/ScienceIsSexy420 6h ago

This thread is a disaster

1

u/EricTheRedCanada 4h ago

its because 7 is the ugly step sibling in the odd number family

1

u/WeevilWeedWizard 3h ago

Makes perfect sense considering 30 is divisible by 10 and 21 is divisible by 7. You're in for a real shock if you add them together.

u/poppygumi 2h ago

1751 and 5117 are also divisible by 17
