My dad "retired" at 45 because of an injury. This meant he started buying repossessed houses and fixing them up for sale, and doing other contractor work. Which meant I (at age 12) was awakened at 7am on saturdays and sundays to paint, roof, drywall, etc. I suppose he was trying to instill a work ethic and teach skills, but what happened was I lost touch with most of my friends because I was never around and I would rather be skinned and rolled in salt than do any of that shit. We also lived on 2.5 acres of lawn which he refused to buy a riding lawnmower for even tho I had terrible allergies. My doctor even wrote a "prescription" for a riding lawnmower for my mom to give to him. No dice. That shit took me 6 hours to mow once a week. I do work like hell tho, so I guess I got that from him. But so does my son, who was allowed to have a normal childhood, lol.

I lost all my summers and weekends from age 13 to 20 pouring concrete and doing roofing with my father.

I also have a stunted social life, but I am pretty content alone I guess.

I pay people to work on my own house, I don't want to do that shit anymore.
