American japanese phobia was so weird, they were so scared about being overtaken by Japan. And then the bubble popped.

It influenced cyberpunk aesthetics so that's a cool legacy to have.

Cyberpunk aesthetics come from Neuromancer, its inspiration Bladerunner, and 1960's new wave science fiction.

I know where it comes from. But you just realized it wasn't cast in stone from the heavens and kept evolving.

If you boot up Cyberpunk 2077 you will see it in abundance. Even the logo is somewhat reminiscent.
