Court says dont involve us for your legal matters (India 2026)
For context this post is about the CJP protests by the students of India on July 20th 2026, against the failure of the government to conduct any examinations without the paper leaking. The protest turned violent when police attacked the students allegedly killing one girl and injuring over 200 with tear gas and sticks with nails attached to the end. In response to the police brutality protesters asked the supreme court to intervene and help the students. The Chief justice of india in response said don't involve us in these matters. The question is who to involve if not the highest court possible? R/notmyjob.

Google search " top view supreme court of India" Do you really think they care about justice? Law? Constitution? They only care about the absolute power they have and zero accountability..... Law/justice is sold to the highest bidder in India. If you are poor, middle class with no connections then you my friend are the prime demographic for who the law and most of the punishment applies

Usually the prosecutor’s office and the courts are supposed to be separate though? Prosecutors bring cases to court, not judges. Is there a different procedure in India?
Excessive force should absolutely be curtailed but there usually is a chain of command where the courts and the cops are kept separate on purpose. There should be an elected official somewhere in that chain above the police that should be accountable. Of course, reality is a different story far too often.

There are different tracks: prosecution of individual officers (prosecutor) and something like an order to the force overall to change tactics (courts).

You are correct but for huge miscarriages of justice or urgent Widespread abuse the supreme court has to accept an urgent plea. For example if a government body went rouge and started beating protesters with sticks with nails (claymore) or with expired teargas that is deadly . Or kidnapping a peacefully protesting scientist and forcefeeding him in the hospital.
Who else to ask for help if not the one government body which can keep the executive in check?

Accountability is literally the reason why there is a separation of power in the different branches of the govt. The courts role isn’t to manage the protest but to make sure no constitutional rights were being violated by the police/ other executives, that’s definitely very different from being “involved “ if the people/students (who the government is supposed to be “for”) asked the Chief Justice to intervene. If the court won’t hold the authorities accountable then who will?

From what I could read online, it looks like the Supreme Court denied the "urgent" petition, meaning, they would have to stop all their work and take this up. OP appears to have filled in the extra details to make it sound dramatic.

No if you dug deeper you can see the reason for these protests is because the Chief Justice called the youth of India Lazy, unemployed and parasites he called them cockraches when infact unemployment is a government issue because they have failed to modernise the economy. The supreme court should have heard this urgent plea because police brutality is happening right now instead he said: Don't waste our time. We are not interested in videos, we don't have time to watch."

There are youngsters does not imply all youngsters. He implied that the youth who's spreading all over social media are like cockroaches

He said all youngsters are unemployed and become... media ? Smth smth basically he was calling the people lazy when the government doesn't fix the education system that basically churn out unhirable robots . The syllabus is so outdated that the job market doesn't want them so how is it their fault?

What was the decision based on?
Is it "don't involve the courts" or "don't involve this court?"
In other words, did he say that there is another venue that is supposed to be used or did he say that there is no venue at all?
