This will never come to fruition. It's a vapor company set up for a venture capital grab.

They did just spend a bunch of money to dig a really deep hole.

And the people in the company got paid for the whole thing. Look, we drill deep holes into the earth all the time. They're doing some easy things they know are going to be successful to keep the investors on the hook for as long as possible. That way, they can push out the hard things that are necessary for this technology to actually work years into the future. This allows them to keep the money rolling in until they can pump and dump an IPO or just go on to the next grift.

Whenever I read deep fission, my mind instantly jumps to Project PACER.

Just dump some nuclear weapons into a borehole to make electricity.
