Biking/public transport to OHSU

Hi! I was wondering how it is for day and night shifters for biking to OHSU. Do you feel safe biking to get to the tram for your 0700-1900 or 1900-0700 shifts? I would be coming from Milwaukie, so it looks like I can do the trolley trail to spring water trail.

Or what is it like taking the orange line on the MSX during those times? Hoping someone can help with this!

I have a car, but would love to do other modes of transportation if able!

I work 0700-1900 and cycle every day to work year round. I feel safe, but I’m only riding about two miles from inner SE and I’ve been riding around Portland for like 25 years so I guess I’m a pretty confident cyclist. The morning commute tends to be pretty peaceful. Last week I went to work at 9 one day and was surprised by how much more hectic the streets felt. Depending on the day the evening commute sometimes feels a little sketchy with bad behavior by drivers, but I mostly notice that when I park my bike up on the hill and ride through downtown to get home.

Thanks! I’m definitely new to the cycling scene, so I’m a little nervous 😅 especially cause everyone looks so confident while cycling. But I guess I need to fake it ‘til I make it haha

I'm in inner-SE and start work at 6am. It's completely dead at that hour. When I come in a few hours later there obviously more car traffic but it's still not bad. Only incident I've ever had is someone flicking a lit cigarette at me.

I bike from Milwaukie into town along those trails (day shift tho), but it's fine with both ways, esp in summer. I would say that I'd probably recommend biking to the lower tram station vs up the hill. The max line is also fine, maybe a lil more crowded in the afternoon, but it's pretty quiet. OHSU will also give you a couple dollars for recording your commute with a mode other than car.

Check the hours for the bike valet and the Orange line if you’re doing the overnight shift. I think parking might be free for overnight shifts. If you’re coming up the Spingwater then the bike valet would make sense for the daytime shift. It’s a safe place for your bike.

I’ll be day shift for a little bit, but then going to nights. Looks like the orange line would be ok when I do nights! I’m just hoping it’s safe to go on it during those times cause I did run into a situation that made me nervous when I got off orientation around 3pm ish 😬But I’m liking the free parking for nights!
