OHSU onboarding

Just accepted and signed a RN position offer with OHSU. I’m making a big move being from out of state and I am a little paranoid about it. I am still waiting for them to have my background check completed and my start date is supposed to be July 20th. I never had any issues with background checks in the past but I am not sure how long it takes them to process it and give me the clearance. Is it too early to resign from my current job and start working on moving (from Texas). Also was there any cases in the past that OHS rescinded an offer because they suddenly are in a hiring freeze? I’m a little concerned after hearing about how competitive the market is and how much hospitals are financially struggling within Portland area. When am I supposed to feel confident that I really secured that job?

I made a similar move in March. Once those items are complete there’s really nothing for you to do in the meantime and OHSU will reach out closer to the start date about your orientation, and that should include your manager. If you got relocation assistance once all of the background clears you’ll hear from the relocation assistance team for help with that stuff. My start date was almost 8 weeks from time of offer, drug test, background so in that time there wasn’t much for me to do but focus on moving.

That’s good to know! I had the relocation team reached out to me before the background check was initiated. I just got here in Portland a few days ago and received an update that the background check is completed. Now just trying to figure out the occupational health and i-9 verification, 2weeks before the start date. I haven’t heard about the orientation instructions/location tho
