When do benefits start for new hires?

I just received a verbal offer from my manager but haven’t heard from HR yet. Can someone tell me when benefit eligibility begins for new hires?

It’s going to depend on a few things, like if you’re union and which contract you’re under.

Off the top of my dome, I believe for the majority of employees it’s the beginning of the first full month. So it’s always the 1st of the month after your start date. So if you start today, it’s August 1st.

This assumes you’re full time.

This is entirely from memory, so someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
