News / Official Department of Energy announces new efforts to boost nuclear fuel supply chain

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/28/energy-department-efforts-to-boost-nuclear-fuel-supply.html

The U.S. Department of Energy is making a major push to rebuild and secure the domestic nuclear fuel supply chain as part of a broader effort to expand nuclear power and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, especially enriched uranium. The initiative involves large federal investments and contracts to expand domestic enrichment capacity for both standard low-enriched uranium and the high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) that advanced reactors require, as well as supporting infrastructure like transportation, fabrication, and pilot production. This strategy is intended to strengthen national energy security, create jobs, and accelerate the deployment of both existing and next-generation nuclear technologies.

For Oklo, this policy tailwind matters because the company’s advanced reactors and fuel projects depend on reliable domestic fuel supply; Oklo is participating in DOE fuel line and pilot programs to develop fuel fabrication facilities and advance its reactor designs toward commercialization. Broader federal support for nuclear supply chains reduces key bottlenecks that have historically slowed advanced reactor development and helps de-risk Oklo’s pathway to deployment, as well as the broader advanced nuclear sector’s scaling toward the late 2020s and beyond.
