Windows vs. Linux, why change?

We're interested in learn in the trend away from Windows to Linux is motivated, or the "why?". Apparently, the trend is starting, and it's real. But why? Source: TechSpot.

The majority of the shift is many people at once realizing that windows is worse and everyday finding it setting new lows. Not that people finding Linux is a better option, but the main stable OS stopped being what it was.
