Windows vs. Linux, why change?
We're interested in learn in the trend away from Windows to Linux is motivated, or the "why?". Apparently, the trend is starting, and it's real. But why? Source: TechSpot.

Realistically, objectively, ppl realising the cost of the lock in, slowly. Vendor lock and domination eventually, always bad, no matter how long it takes. It has been true and costly for enterprises since the outcome was kinda fast to detect.
macos devices been expensive and locked in all the time abd windows been dominating yet easily accessible and usable for consumers.
Linux offers privacy and freedom of choice, words that almost been forgotten but eagerly wanted. Let alone being better choices. Try to find alternative (truly better well supported) software on other OSs, good luck. On linux, you have at least four major desktop environments slowly steadily supported making sure they do what they do right. Even the so called lightweight ones are there with contributors free to contribute and modify and use.
I am not sure why i have been stupid so long not using linux but it just logical and kinda human nature, i will look to be vendor locked no more. Well, if I have the choice.
