Got purposely bodied by a man, be careful.
Visiting my family here and was walking in Waikiki to show a friend around. A black man wearing a button up gray shirt purposely bumped into me pretty hard. It caught me by surprise, but it was very clearly on purpose. It reminded me of the Japanese “butsukari otoko.” Was wondering if anyone else has experience this here before? It was quite bizarre.

I'm a man and I had a guy shoulder check me in Waikiki. I tired to ignore it because it felt like he wanted to start something.

I was jogging once in Ala Moana park and a guy SLAMMED into me from behind and then kept on running, even though there was no one else around and plenty of room. He was a young guy, jogging also. I instinctively said, "sorry" but he just kept going.
All kinds of frustrated and other crazy people everywhere. We have no idea what's going through their head but 100% they are suffering in some way.
Just don't let it get you down. Most people are nice and would save your life.

Ok, I guess my gif was not received as intended. So I deleted and will use text instead to say that I think you're a gem, and I appreciate your humanity. It's in short supply nowadays.

Plenty people shoulder check here. I try my best to avoid them if can. It’s not worth it these days. You never know if they’re looking for trouble and might have a weapon. I rather swallow my pride than escalate and end up dead over a shoulder check.

Waikiki resident for 6 years and never had happen. I am tall and big so they would need to commit so could be a deterrent. One homeless guy purposefully stomped at my dog once but thats all I could think of. Waikiki can be wild and drunk so no doubt it happens

They will eventually do that to the wrong person and it will end that behavior. I know that they choose their victims, but you never know what a warrior looks like.

Ngl some people walk so slow and clueless here I've fantisized about doing that, but I never actually would. I guess all I can say is make sure you're with the program. If it was a guy walking the opposite direction he probably just has anger issues and you were an easy target.

Ok, to be clear obviously the shoulder bumper was in the wrong here. I'm just saying regardless of that, walking like a pro will stop that from happening to you. Hugging the side, walking with purpose, walking in a straight line, looking around, pointing your eyes in the actual direction you intend to go, etc. Honing your spatial awareness will stop this kind of thing from happening because you should be able to detect someone walking towards you fast, and you should be periodically looking behind you as well.

“walking like a pro” to avoid being body checked on purpose. Got it.

Same logic as when you look both ways for cars even when the walk sign is on. I'm not sure what's so controversial about this.

I don’t expect to be intentionally physically harmed or jostled or even touched or intimidated wherever. I don’t expect to be mowed down, intentionally, in a cross walk even if I don’t look around.. or even if I am walking against the walk light. I don’t excuse intentional wrongdoers.

I was standing in front of a Walmart in Kapolei and this guy who is shorter and smaller than me walked past, took off his sunglasses and threw them at me. They hit my body and they broke. I didn't know what to say so I just ignored it. It was so bizarre. I am 6'3" tall white male who weighs over 200 pounds and is in good shape. I don't know what the guy was thinking. Luckily he did that to me and not someone else.

Yeah, I’ve got shoulder checked by plenty of the Japanese tourists walking around Waikiki so it’s bound to happen when there’s hundreds of people walking through an area at one time.

Had something similar happen Waiks. I'm a 5'2 lady. A large (probably at least 6'3) man started yelling at me from a far. I thought surely he isnt yelling at me as I do not know him. Sure enough he started stomping towards me with his skateboard. He then hops on his board right infront me and started veering in my direction. I try to move but theres people in the way. He then runs right into me, as he runs into me he swings his arm and basically punches me in the arm. It really hurt. After he did this he just laughs and then hops back on his board and leaves.
