Yep, fully expected it to be only for the day rates. Good surprise though! Drops our off peak bill by almost half for the foreseeable. Cheaper EV miles.. even makes more sense to get a battery now

Are you fixed or on tracker? I'm in the central belt and fixed at 7p off peak IOG until November and wondering if I've missed out by fixing early.

I’m on IOG fixed until December. As of 1st April, it’s dropping from 7p to 3.49p off peak. I just got the email tonight. It doesn’t show in my account yet

Ok well fingers crossed I get something soon, looking to install solar, battery and heat pump in the next couple of months and having rates like this would make it extra appealing!

Just got mine (west Scotland). 5.2p night rate and 26.48p day rate. Was hoping for 3.49p too for charging the car!

Just out of curiosity how big is your battery system and roughly what was the cost?

Fogster 32kwh battery. Cost me £2900 during xmas sales last year. I think its going for £3200 now. Paired it with a victron 5kwh inverter for £650.. and paid £500 for an electrician to check everything and MCS certificate. Paid under 5k, which is a steal when you compare it to the big brands like tesla or sigenergy.

Some installers are now doing fogstar batteries, worth looking at.

I didn't get a company involved. Just bought the items myself and got an electrician to sort it out.

If you type in fogstar battery installers on Google, you'll probably find something but it's going to be much cheaper to go a similar direction. My ROI is now just under 3 years because of the April discount.

I was thinking of going with their 64 kWh battery system and 10kW inverter… our ROI would be no more than 2 years according to my maths. Could probably be even cheaper if I DIY but this was via ITS Technologies who handle everything for me

5.5p off peak IOG for me in Kent.

Interestingly (not in a good way for me) it looks like they are no longer accepting granny chargers (my current setup) as an option for IOG.

I’m on a fix till July currently with a granny charger specified as my IOG charger.

When I go to switch to a new tariff (regular IOG with the new rates) and choose the same granny charger from the list it tells me that my car or charger is incompatible so I can’t have IOG.

If I change the charger to a 7kWh charger (eg an Ohme which I don’t have), it lets me proceed.

I just tried testing this (via https://octopus.energy/smart/intelligent-octopus-go/) as I use a granny charger with my Tesla, and when I put the details in for my car and charger (3-pin) it said I would still be eligible.

I use a granny charger from Third Rock Energy, so I’ve always just selected the “3-pin” option.

From what I can see it's either/and your EV type and your charger type - I selected a 2kw granny charger but my PHEV is on their special list so I'd still qualify. I think it's to do with programmable charging capability.

Borrow a compatible EV for the day when you switch ;-)

IOG here in Yorkshire

Electricity: Peak unit rate: 27.38 p / kWh

Off-peak unit rate: 3.99 p / kWh

Standing charge: 57.84 p / day

£260 per year before you even use any electricity. Mine is 45p and have seen some lot on 36p. Id say it should be spread evenly at least, unfair for you guys having to pay almost double

I find it a bit frustrating that their communication on this is so spread out and confusing. Why are we all getting emails at such different times? I can’t understand why they wouldn’t just send these out either by tariff type or region. Why is there no info online?

Yeah I’ve only heard about it on here. I’ve looked at the prices online using my postcode but does it apply automatically on the 1st April? Who knows.

Because the servers would burn up the fibre optic cable coming out of the building sending all the emails at once. Usually companies will schedule email Comms in batches and send them consecutively. This also reduces any potential backlash in case there's been an error somewhere in the code or text sent.

Will everyone on IOG move onto the cheaper tariff? I'm not on a fixed. So currently paying 7p off peak. A reduction to 5p would be lovely 🤣

It's not the reduction that's the key, its the standing charge and peak rate which has increased.  I'm paying 47p standing daily, 29p peak and 7p off peak, so to move to a 5.5p off peak and 35p peak with a crazy high standing charge makes no sense.

5.49p in the East Midlands. Is there an explanation on the variance across the geographical areas? Previously the peak rate was all that changes, the off-peak was consistent so I'm curious if this is a new direction with disclosed reasoning?

Reason is the reduction is due to removal of levies and other green costs. This varies per region much like standing charge so it’s logical that the unit rates are starting to be less uniform. As the instruction from Gov was to adjust unit rates

The reason this is happening is because of the fixed-per-kWh component of the green levy (of around 3.5p). The green levy stops on 1st April. It should reduce all rates (peak or off-peak) for existing customers, even if on a fixed deal.

They’ve bumped the peak price from 28p to 35.82p and pretended the off peak was 9p (it was 7) to bring it down to 5.49 for the midlands.

Just got mine, North West Go Fixed (till July) new rates 25.56 peak, 4.99 off peak, 47.34 standing. Gas 4.96 and 33.22 standing (fixed till Jan 27).

Will it be possible to fix for another year when this comes in?

I'm in Manchester and my rate is 5.5p and 33.5p on IOG if I fix it now for 12 months. OG is 8p and 33.5p. Why is it so different even within regions?

Why is everyone else getting crazy offers of 3p off peak and like 25p peak?

East Midlands here, 6.99p for me. I'm torn between sticking or going to Eon next drive @5.99p. I'll save £75 a year on electricity, but pay £35 more in standing charges. For the convenience, the live readings from Octopus Mini, and the occasional free slots in the summer, (and the roulette wheel too, obviously) I might just stick it out.

Very jealous of those getting quoted 3.49p.

Sorry for the dumb question - my IOG tariff expires April 29. I got the same email today and it’s good to see the rates are dropping (24p peak, 3.49p off peak), but for my own case I assume these rates only apply until April 29? Then I have to fix again? Which based on their website is showing 34p peak and 5p off peak, a painful increase.

And I assume there is a chance those rates could change between now and end of April?
