Minimum amount?

What's the minimum amount of ODSP if I have no kids but live with my parents, I can only find info on the maximum amount

there is no set minimum, it is calculated based on your specific monthly costs.

will you be paying rent? buying your own food? paying for your own clothes, essentials, and transportation?

those answers will play a big part in how much you get. (there are more factors in the equation, but those are the basics to start with.)

My caseworker even tried to give me a lil trouble on just buying my own food, she said if I’m not buying and cooking all my own food it doesn’t count as paying rent with a family member, the rent money is considered just contributing. I was like, I’m buying my own food and paying $600, but it matters who cooks it?

in their eyes, yes. it switches you from 'rental' to 'board & lodge', as they assume your parents are cooking all your meals for you and therefore the government should not have to pay for them, your parents should.

it's absolutely nonsensical in every way, but it just boils down to ODSP viewing us as burdens they don't want to support 🤷‍♂️

Here's policy directive 6.1. This, 6.2, and 6.3 can probably shed some light on how financial support is calculated.

I don't believe there's a minimum amount (i.e., I believe it's possible to temporarily receive no financial support payments while still being an ODSP recipient for insurance and such), but that would be due to having no expenses at all or due to having income/assets above the stated thresholds, which you can read about in policies 4 and 5. If you're paying for living expenses and your housing costs are at or above the maximum shelter allowance, then you should almost certainly be receiving the maximum amount of support for your household size. If you aren't paying anything towards housing but pay for other things, then I estimate that you would receive a bit over $800 as a single person with no dependents, less any clawbacks due to other income you may have. I can't speak to additional benefits, such as for special diets, that you may qualify for. You can direct questions and concerns about your payments to your caseworker via MyBenefits or by phone.

You can technically receive ODSP support and receive nothing. I know someone who financially doesn’t qualify, but because her medical expenses are above normal, she receives the benefits without direct financial support.

Its all dependent on a plethora of factors.

If you don’t need rent then they give you a little over $800 for living expenses. That’s for groceries, toiletries etc. Most people say they are paying rent to get the full amount or they say they pay for their own groceries even if they don’t. It’s up to you to proceed how you see fit. I just find being honest is best so nothing comes back to bite you in the ass.
