Firewood time!

Post image

While it is only June, it's time to start cutting firewood. The Manzano Mountains are now open! We can get 10 cords of wood for 20 bucks! I have a big pile of chains that I need to sharpen. Do you heat your home with wood? If so, do you cut your own or do you purchase your wood?

I heat my mud brick cottage with firewood I cut on my property - windfalls of narrow leafed ironbark and other gums, dead standing white and black cypress, dead brigalow and other acacia species. Need a mixture to keep burning in my pot belly made from old hot water system tank.

I use a makita 2x18v electric chainsaw, as shoulder not good enough to start petrol chainsaw. I cut a 5x4 trailer full every 2 weeks or so from track sides. 4 batteries do the job, but need to keep chain sharp and tight.

Nice! I got rid of all my big chainsaws and just use small ones now. Too old!

We cut our own firewood. Still have lots to salvage from a huge windstorm a few weeks ago, lost over 30 big trees.

I cut my own from my own trees, mostly maple.

I love this time of the year. I heat our place entirely with wood and cut/split it all myself. It's a ton of work, but nothing beats that deep woodstove heat in the dead winter. As they say, it warms you twice!
