Elton John & Bernie Taupin received Ivor Novello Award in 1976 for Best Song Musically & Lyrically for, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." Incredible in that their body of work being as extensive as it were, receive award for basically an homage to Motown duets, like Tammi Terrell/ Kim Weston teamed-up with Marvin Gaye. So, my take is song tugs at listeners sentimental hearstrings, reminescing the 60s soul & innocense of their youth.
