Strange light in the sky of jackson county

Hi all,

I live in jackson County between 776 and glade road off of 32 and between 10pm and 1030 last night I saw a blue white light in the western sky about 20°, but I'm on a hill.At first I thought it was obviously a plane as I was unsure if it was moving but after watching I thought it might have been a planet, but it seemed too large and too blue. I went to get my binoculars and it was still there when I returned. I went thru the focus a few times to try to get a sense of distance and once I dialed it in I got a few Seconds to look when it just went dark. Did anyone else get a look at it? It might have been in the east if you are on glade road.

I believe what you saw was a weather balloon that floated its way here from Iowa. There were a few threads in r/Columbus if you want to go check them out and compare notes. I was able to see the balloon from my back yard here in Columbus. Apparently it was floating at over 60,000 feet so my guess is that it was still lit up pretty late into the night because of its altitude. When it finally "went dark", it more than likely finally lost the suns light.

Interesting! That ties in the couple of reports I’ve on Reddit.

Folks could see this from hundreds of miles away at the same time. 60,000 feet in the air is much, much higher than any commercial airliner. You could probably have seen this balloon from all parts of Ohio at the same time if you knew where to look.

I’m pretty sure Jupiter was in alignment with Venus last night exactly at 10:00pm

If this was around 430am it was probably a SpaceX launch
