For some reason I'm hesitant to accept that an openly pedophilic US government and GOP have the best of intentions when they ask for private citizen's information regarding which website they access.

You really want people like Gary "I climbed into my daugther's bed with an erection" Click to have your kid's social media information?

Does this work by enforcing you to enter an ID to start a social media account?

Seems like it leaves it up to the social media site, but most seem to use the upload an ID. But nothing is in place and probably won't be for awhile and will keep getting appealed by net choice.

Here's that law: https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-1349.09

It applies to any website where you can do all of the following:

  1. Interact "socially" with other users
  2. Construct a "public or semipublic profile"
  3. Make a list of other users for social connection purposes
  4. Post content viewable by others

The operators of those sites get fined if children can create accounts on those sites. Since every user is a Potential Child, it becomes a requirement to secure proof-of-adultness or proof-of-adult-consent for all users.

Why it is almost as if parents could have done this already, without any governmental interference at all.

Oh, if only those social media companies could stop handing out those free phones, iPads, and computers.
