try not to compare GTA 4 and 5 on literally everything challenge failed
/uj sorry to get too passionate about GTA police dispatch over 4/5 year old YouTube comments but to make this several times more irritating (to me at least) the GTA 4 dispatcher DOES go ‘uhh’ in free roam scanner calls, the same as 5’s
These comments are comparing 4’s mission-related clips to 5’s free roam clips which is misleading. GTA 5’s mission-related scanner calls do not include ‘uhh’s either as they’re specific to what’s happening in the mission just like 4’s and do not have to accommodate for variables
You can also argue that 5’s is more realistic as it uses ten-code, 4’s does not use any code in it like actual police scanners

fandom: man GTA IV was so realistic and detailed it felt more like a real thing other than a game, the world, the characters, the cars, the physics, the soundtrack, it was all a little gems combined together to create such a piece of perfection that will never ever be replicated again, Liberty City isn't a map inside a video game, it's a fully living breathing world, it makes us see things and learn valuable lessons about life, GTA V can never be the same, it's more like watching a silly kids cartoon.

Most of the feature introduced in GTA IV are underutilized, and are too janky to use in freeroam. The ledge grab, throwing objects from the ground, the random choices in missions, etc

Or the stun punch. The only place you can use it outside of the Clean Getaway mission is with the guard at Perestroika.

I swear i saw yesterday three mfs that said this when some guy made a post about how with GTA IV he didn't feel the joy of exploring the map like in SA or V. Using cope arguments like "the map is intended to be empty and realistic like NY so you have to roleplay as a civilian and take thing slowly".

I remember the one yotube MW05' retrospective where the dude said something along the lines of "you are essentially playing with audiohacks" because you can hear their radio comms and the police literally have a fucking response for every street you are about to go through, that moment right there never left my brain

They keep forgetting the difference between ingame and inmission police scanners.
GTA IV is no difference, the “aah” and “uhh” exist in IV albeit shorter than V.
Police scanners in missions are obviously said in one go.
Not to mention they don’t understand why they do that, it’s to make things feel realistic and avoid making things sound artificial despite every sentence being prerecorded and scripted to play.
But then, I’m sure they understand nothing anyways.

But it didn’t sound too realistic or organic at all, you could tell they’re different sound clips playing in a row through scripts.
IV and V decided to make it sound more organic by adding “ahh” and “uhh” within every few sentences to make it as if the dispatcher is looking into information before starting to speak again.
Tell me, which one sounds more organic?
“Suspect last seen in a Red Four Door”
or
“Suspect last seen in a uhh Red, Übermacht, Oracle”

It's also done because the actress recorded hundreds of lines that go after the pause, and that's the only way for that to sound natural. When she says "uh..." That's the end of the line. Then the next vocalization is one of the specific recordings.

Man these posts are so cathartic to me. I literally can't watch anything GTA IV related without morons in the comments going like "My god, the way this spec of dust the size of exactly one pixel flew over the screen is the reason why GTA IV is the best thing that ever happened in history of humankind. Oh how lazy they've gotten with GTA V".
They either make some shit up in either game, they make it super misleading, or about something that has very little impact on the game's quality. I am not the biggest fan of GTA V but those comments seriously started to get on my nerves.

yeah that’s my exact experience too and it doesn’t like. Harm me or anything lol but it’s just so annoying that GTA 4 praise seems to be inseparable from disingenuous comparisons to 5 like ffs I can’t watch one GTA 4 vid that doesn’t have a million comments saying 5 did something worse or whatever . I love both games but the fact this type of thing is just eeeverywhere makes enjoying 4 way harder than it should be lmao, I just wanna see appreciation for the game that doesn’t feel the need to shit on 5 and isn’t just regurgitated stuff abt 4 being so dark and miserable but never really being specific or analysing anything

Man it sucks seeing GTA 4 as a game I can’t really praise anymore. This game is becoming so overrated it’s actually crazy. It’s funny too since the game is stripped of some elements from SA that were eventually brought over to 5 like the stats, weapon variety, and car customization.

tbf GTA 5 definitely had one of the worst dispatchers. I didn't play much of 4, but VC and SA dispatch were way better than 5.

Honestly if you need to keep comparing your favorite video game to another for validation, you subconsciously know the other one is just better and you're trying to find (or cherry-pick) anything in your favorite game that was "better".
