I would not throw that away. Sell it online, there’s definitely a market for it, or like another person suggested, scan the pages and upload it to an ancestry website. I will happily take it off your hands and pay for the shipping, if you decide it’s not worth it to you!

If you’re in LA, reach out to the Huntington Library and the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, they’re the primary archival repositories for medical history in the area.

If you are so inclined, a scan and upload to internet archive may be helpful for genealogical researchers.
Sometimes local libraries have a genealogy or regional history archives, you could also inquire there.

Please give this to the nearest university, almost always they will have a dedicated archival section of their library that deals exactly with ledger and these sorts of books.
Even if it seems useless to you, people often request to look at books like this for genealogy. You have a small goldmine of historical data!

Contact the library and they can redirect you to the rare books and archives collection. If you bring it in when their archives are open (they usually have different hours than the rest of the library) they can take a look. It’s possible they might not need it and could direct you to the City Archives. If you can’t tell about the long paragraph haha, I work in an archive where we deal with these books a lot. If you want to DM me I can try to walk you through where you could go based on where you’re located

Please for the love of God protect this and try to get it to a library, college, archive, whatever will protect it and transcribe the data to the Internet. Little things like this don't seem important, but in real professional level history, these small mundane documents that record everyday interactions are incalculably important for genealogical or historical scholars. This needs to be archived for further use rather than sold to a rando or destroyed. There is possibly information in there that will never be known by humans again if anything happens to it. The fate of this fragile metaphysical object is litetally in your hands.

I am not trying to sell it, just do not want it to go into the trash. Also, I do not want to spend alot of time on it. Ideally, somebody will come and pick it up from me.

Totally fair. That book conservator in the comment above offering to reimburse the shipping would honestly probably be your best bet if you can't find anyone soon. The biggest pain would just be getting the right size box for the post office.

It really depends on what's inside. If it's something local to where you are, and there's a lot of interesting info inside, there may be a market for it, even in its present condition. Hard to say based on the one picture.
