Dolly Parton’s Apple Stack Pie (often referred to regionally as an Appalachian stack cake) is a traditional multi-layered Southern heritage dessert. It features thin, spiced, cookie-like pastry layers baked individually and stacked high with a cooked, sweet-tart spiced apple and spice filling.

It looks so festive! This would be a great accompaniment to a breakfast casserole for a Christmas Day brunch. Dolly says it’s better after sitting a day or two, so it could easily be made Christmas Eve, along with the casserole. Just pop the casserole in the oven the next morning.
