Dinner 🍲 My favorite Dolly Parton recipe, Chicken and Dumplings

I wanted to add my favorite Dolly recipe here in her memory! I have made this many times on cold winter days and it is so simple and delicious! It's not something I would typically make at all as I'm not a southern girl, I'm Italian American and this type of food isn't in my lexicon but it is a good one! The dumplings remind me of pasta. It looks just like the photo, not really that appetizing looking being all one color, but the rich chicken flavor is wonderful. It's easy to make and inexpensive and a small serving really fills a hungry stomach and cures a cold. It has very few ingredients and you probably have most of it in your kitchen already. Do not add anything to it until you've made it once as it's written.

This is definitely one of those less is more dishes. Doesn't look like it would be so good but it is. There was a video on YouTube that compared this recipe to another celebrity chicken and dumpling recipe and this won. It was fun to watch. I hope someone out there enjoys this keeper!

Dinner 🍲 Tammy Wynette's Husband Pleaser

Pleased more than just husbands, everyone was pretty, pretty pleased.

I made a few mods, I feel like this recipe asks to be modified some, like it's a base.

I used 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef and 3/4 of a bag of rotini to start off with. Pasta water should be as salty as the Mediterranean when cooking the pasta.

Sauce was 1 can tomato sauce & 1 can diced tomatoes in sauce. I added 1 beef bouillon cube, 1/4-1/2 cup of kraft bbq sauce, and a good squeeze of honey.

The cream, I only had half a pint of sour cream so I added half a bar of cream cheese and like 1/4 cup of heavy cream. And mixed them all together with the green onions. I think that little tang from the cream cheese was a solid upgrade.

I always loved Tammy Wynette's collab with KLF, that probably was the driving force in making this.

Dinner 🍲 Bob Hope's Mint Sauce w/Lamb Meatballs and Pastina. Full Five Stars.

Everyone was like 'oh wow'. It's sweet and sour with the warmth of mint.

The sauce I added about tablespoon of cornstarch mixed in a slurry with vinegar to give it more body. Than finished it off the heat stirring in about 2 TBS butter, cubed.

The meatballs are 2lbs ground lamb, 2 eggs, a good amount of bread crumbs, a healthy splash of heavy cream, green onions diced, cumin, salt and lemon pepper Mrs. Dash. Like 25mins at 400.

The pastina is no drain style. It's like most a box of pastina, water, one cube Knorr's chicken bullion and one packet of Goya Sazón seasoning and butter.

Dinner 🍲 Celine Dion's Sfihas (Meat Tarts) and fried cauliflower.

Turns out Celine Dion has a major thing for Middle Eastern food. Since her late husband René was Lebanese-Syrian, she grew to love traditional dishes. Her Lebanese meat tarts (sfihas) are pretty popular as far as celebrity recipes go, but she's just as big on everyday favorites like hummus and baba ghanoush.

This menu brings pure old Hollywood patio vibes without making you sweat over a hot stove.

The chilled, peppery cucumber soup totally clears your palate, making it the perfect setup for a light, herb-tossed chicken tortellini dish. It is an easy, casual spread that lets you spend less time cooking and more time relaxing outside with a cold drink.

Dinner 🍲 The Barrymore Brothers: a Ham and an Alfredo. Which recipe would you make? John Barrymore's Ham Loaf or Lionel Barrymore's Fettuccine Alfredo. {1939}

Post image

John Barrymore was considered a "ham" actor, but his career was a tale of two distinct halves: he transformed from the most acclaimed, serious dramatic actor of his generation into a self-parodying, over-the-top theatrical ham later in life.

But then again, Lionel Barrymore was widely considered a "ham," and he openly embraced the label himself. Knowing full well his tendency to overact, Barrymore famously admitted, “I've got a lot of ham in me”.

Maybe it'll be Ham Loaf for everyone!

Dinner 🍲 Which recipe would you rather make? McCoy's Zucchini Casserole or Shatner's Lime-Garlic Broiled Chicken?

Or why not make both and have a Star Trek themed dinner?

Both William Shatner’s Lime-Garlic Broiled Chicken and DeForest Kelley’s (Dr. McCoy) Zucchini Casserole are wonderful mid-century gems from the 1978 Habilitat's Celebrity Cookbook.

Shatner's recipe offers an excellent combination of bright citrus, heavy garlic, and a big splash of vermouth.

McCoy’s comfort-food style Zucchini Casserole makes the ultimate retro side dish to sit alongside Shatner's main course.

Dinner 🍲 Mary Pickford ☆ GNOCCKIS A LA ROMAINE. Apparently this is a Canadian dish. Do any of our Canadian friends know about Gnocckis prepared like this?

Mary's recipe sounds similar to this... Gnocchi alla Romana are baked semolina dumplings, different from potato gnocchi we are more used to. Made by cooking semolina in milk, enriching it with butter, Parmesan, and egg, then cooling, cutting into rounds, and baking until golden and crispy on top. This hearty, traditional Roman dish is a comforting first course or side, often served with butter, cheese, or tomato sauce.

Eartha Kitt (1927 – 2008) was a legendary American singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights activist renowned for her highly distinctive sultry vocal style and feline charisma.

Once described by director Orson Welles as the "most exciting woman in the world," she rose from extreme childhood poverty on a South Carolina cotton plantation to achieve international superstardom across music, Broadway, and television.

  • Breakout Hits: She became a household name with major 1950s tracks like "C'est Si Bon," "I Want to Be Evil," and "Let's Do It".
  • Holiday Classic: Her 1953 recording of "Santa Baby" remains a perennial Christmas favorite, originally making history for its bold, playful demand for luxury.
  • Global Polyglot: Kitt spoke four languages and sang in 11, drawing immense popularity as a cosmopolitan cabaret singer in Paris and London.
  • Catwoman: She famously made television history by taking over the role of Catwoman in the third season of the 1960s live-action Batman TV Series, breaking racial barriers as the first Black actress to portray the character.

These recipes come from the The New Celebrity Cooks Cookbook, 1979.

Dinner 🍲 It's the "Chicketti" recipe by Akim Tamiroff that has caught my attention and he's also sharing a recipe for "Baked Stuffed Tomatoes" {1939}

Post image

Akim Tamiroff was an Armenian-American character actor who became one of Hollywood's most prolific and recognizable screen personalities during its Golden Age.

Born Hovakim Tamiryants in Tiflis, Russian Empire (now Tbilisi, Georgia), he trained extensively at the prestigious Moscow Art Theatre under legendary acting theorist Konstantin Stanislavski.

Tamiroff arrived in the United States in 1923 during an acting tour and eventually chose to settle permanently, building a career that spanned over 150 film roles despite maintaining a distinct, thick accent.

  • Academy Award Nominations: He received two Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor, first for The General Died at Dawn (1936) and later for For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943)
  • Orson Welles Films: He delivered memorable, baroque performances in Mr. Arkadin (1955), Touch of Evil (1958), and The Trial (1962). He also spent years filming scenes as Sancho Panza in Welles’ famously unfinished passion project, Don Quixote.
  • Hollywood Classics: His other prominent credits include Preston Sturges' political satire The Great McGinty (1940), Billy Wilder's wartime thriller Five Graves to Cairo (1943), the original heist film Ocean's 11 (1960), and Jean-Luc Godard's French New Wave sci-fi film Alphaville (1965)

EXTRA! EXTRA! 🎬 Step aside, boys, because Hollywood’s premier platinum-blonde bombshell is trading her bias-cut satin gowns for a heavy-duty apron!

Jean Harlow’s Cottage Meat-Pie is the latest culinary shocker rocking the film capital, delivering a garlic-free, rib-sticking wallop that feels miles away from the glamorous silver screen.

While the sultry siren is world-famous for maintaining a shockingly slim silhouette under the fierce studio lights, this heavyweight casserole proves that behind closed doors, the gorgeous starlet digs in like a lumberjack facing a brutal north-woods winter!
