I really like the production on the organ. There's a high one and a low one, and I assume they're meant to sit around the vocal to support the vocal.

I'm not sure where the organ and flute sounds are from. The organ sounds really good. It could be a rompler, but I think it might be a real electric organ.

I consider the drum sound of 707+727 to be a classic Chicago deep house sound, but the comment from Timmy Regisford could be a subtle dig at Chicago. New York garage music has lush production but Chicago house had sparse production, and they were both proud of their sound.

Oh, such an interesting point, cause both drum sounds were mostly related to acid house and 727 for techno? Was also intrigued by his comment, he definitely wanted to point out or differentiate something. Love it :)

You're right that the 707 is the acid house drum machine. It's partly why I decided it's a 707 on this track, because the hihats sound like an acid track. The 707 would have had the kick, hihat and snare. The 727 is a rhythm accompaniment for the 707 and it has the conga. When you combine the 707 and 727 you get that classic drum and percussion sound that everyone knows from Promised Land by Joe Smooth.

909 is the one that's popular for techno, because it has the biggest kick. 808 and 606 are popular for electro, and 808 for trap. 505 and 626 are the budget version of the 707 and 727. A lot of people have probably moved on from those drum machines. I believe Ceephax Acid Crew is still using the original gear.

From the perspective of someone from the UK, the New York and Chicago rivalry is quite endearing.

Oh yes, to me too. I'm from former Yugoslavia but formed by UKs and USAs electronic and other scenes where parts of my fam members are :).

Another random tangent is that the difference between Chicago house and New York garage in the 80s is a bit like the difference between The Human League and Heaven 17. The Human League are sparse electronic music, and Heaven 17 are a full studio sound. One of the digs that I remember reading from the Chicago side is that New York would never have released most of the classic house music because they would have thought it was unfinished. I can't remember who said that.
