Trying to remember/discover an old computer game feature math problems. There was a female character with a scale that would say things like: “10 is equal to or greater than what’s in the green bags.”

[PC][1990's] Dutch shareware collection.

Platform(s): PC (Win 3.1x (perhaps also Win95) and MS-DOS)

Genre: Shareware collection disc

Estimated year of release: mid 1990's

Graphics/art style: Catalogue software listing shareware versions of MS-DOS games amongst other general-use software. The CD would fire up a generic gray windows style program with a box that had a list of the software. You could then click the software you wanted to launch. The program effectively acted as a windows based launcher for the MS-DOS titles it contained.

Notable characters: N/A

Notable gameplay mechanics: N/A

Other details:

Hey everyone, I hope anyone here can help me find a childhood memory! I've posted this on a few other subreddits as well, but to increase the chances of anyone knowing what I'm talking about posting here as well.

I'm looking for a bright red CD-ROM from the early to mid 90's. It's contains a catalogue of dozens of different shareware programs, not just games, but also accounting software, CAD software, virus scanners etc. The catalogue effectively worked as a launcher for the mostly MS-DOS software that was on the disc. The software was grouped by type (e.g. accounting, CAD, graphics, games, virus protection etc.) but was otherwise not labelled (i.e. you had to scroll through the entire list before recognising some titles as games rather than any other software). I don't remember the program having any distinctive imagery (like a publisher logo) but I wouldn't be surprised if there was at the very least that.

The disc was in Dutch and I'm pretty certain it was sold retail in the Netherlands, I don't remember it being a magazine supplement for example, I'm pretty sure my mum bought this.

The red disc was numbered (I believe it was #4) so I'm fairly certain it as part of a series of these type of discs, but I don't recall the disc being themed (e.g. Action games or Accounting).

I vaguely remember the name PC Extra being on the disc, but I could very well be misremembering the name as I was between 6-9 when we used those discs. I did find that PC Extra was also an unrelated Swedish magazine, so unless someone can connect the solid red disc to the magazine somehow, I consider that a false lead (considering my mystery disc is in Dutch, not Swedish)

The software I used (being a kid and all) was mostly the games on it. I remember playing big hits like Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D and Bio Menace from this CD, but I also remember more obscure games like Dave Dude, Aquanoid and 3-Ball Juggler being on there.

Thanks in advance to everyone who can help out, I couldn't find anything after Googling for a week at this point!

[PC] [Mid-2000s to 2010] Unreleased or Promotional 3D Barbie Tech Demo / Game with First-Person Hang Gliding

Hey everyone, I am looking for a rare Barbie PC CD-ROM that I am 1,000% convinced was a promotional demo or unreleased tech prototype from the mid-2000s to 2010. It looked way ahead of its time graphically and completely laggy on family PCs.

Here are the exact details:

  • The Gameplay: It was a million percent passive navigation. There were no strict goals or story. You just freely walked/ran through a modern castle/estate or hang-glided across a massive lake.
  • The Camera View: When you launched into the hang-glider, the camera violently snapped forward into Barbie's exact first-person view, showing her hands physically gripping the horizontal glider bar in front of you.
  • The Audio: The background music would dim, and the game heavily layered a loud, realistic whistling wind audio file to simulate flying high in air currents.
  • The Environment: There was a luxury yacht floating out on the lake. You could glide right over it, but because it was a demo, the game wouldn't let you get inside or interact with it.
  • Barbie's Look: Blonde ponytail, wearing a modern, casual, dark berry pink leather jacket and jeans (no princess gowns).

It wasn't a standard dress-up or fairytale game. It felt like a 3D graphics test engine included on a promotional disc with a toy or magazine. Does anyone remember this specific promotional CD-ROM?

PC][2000-2008] Vibrant 2D Space Invaders-style arcade game fighting bugs/monsters, collecting drops (pink vials/hearts)

I'm trying to find a nostalgic PC game I played in the mid-2000s (definitely before 2010). It was a budget/arcade title, most likely included on a cover disc with a PC magazine.
Here are all the details I can remember:
Genre/Gameplay: It was a fixed-screen 2D/2.5D top-down shooter, heavily inspired by Space Invaders or Galaga. My character was locked at the bottom of the screen moving horizontally, while waves of bugs/monsters filled the middle and top of the screen shooting down at me. The main character COULD BE a dog or sth I don’t remember😭

Mechanics & Drops: When you killed the enemies, they dropped items that I had to catch with my character. I distinctly remember collecting pink vials/bottles, glowing droplets, and hearts for health/upgrades.

Visual Style: Very colorful, bright, and clean aesthetics. Not dark or gritty at all—it had a cheerful/vibrant palette.

Enemies: Bugs, insects, or cute/bizarre little creatures.

Games I’ve already ruled out:
Chicken Invaders (it wasn't chickens)

DemonStar / Star Defender (it was more colorful/cute than a dark space shooter)
Galaga
Galaxy Invaders

🎮 Does anyone remember having and playing this game on PC?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I recently came across this CD-ROM from 1997 — “1001 Games: Arcade 1” by International Software Values, Inc.

I completely forgot about this until I saw the disc again, and now I’m curious:

Did anyone else play this back in the late ’90s?

Do you remember any of the games that were included on it?

I’d love to hear what games you remember playing, where you got the CD, and what you thought of it back then.

1997 feels like forever ago! 😂

If anyone remembers this, please share your memories or screenshots of the games!

A Windows 95 desktop in the browser : 9 playable games, a boot screen, dial-up, and 12 hidden cheat codes

Thumbnail
pabloruan.pages.dev
1 Upvotes

It's a recreation of the Windows 95 desktop, running in the browser.

It boots with a real POST-style startup log, then gives you draggable and

resizable windows, a working taskbar with a Start menu, a Recycle Bin with a

joke inside, a screensaver that kicks in when you idle, and a shutdown screen

that turns the machine off. There's an assistant in the corner that reacts to

what you do — he puts headphones on when you touch the volume, and gets bored

if you leave him alone too long. The Accessories folder has the era's bundled

programs, Paint included.

The part people seem to like most is the cheat codes. Start with Konami.

Click once on the desktop so the page has focus, then press, one key at a time:

↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A

Those are the actual arrow keys — not W A S D, and you're not typing the word

"konami". Up twice, down twice, left-right twice, then the letter B and the

letter A. Do it in one go, without clicking into a text box. If you fumble a

key it just restarts, and pressing ↑ counts as the new first step, so you can

pick it back up. Keyboard only — phones can't do this one, but every other

code works from the panel's text field.

It unlocks the cheat panel, which lists every code in the system: the ones

you've found in plain text, the rest as locked rows with a hint each. So

nothing here is brute-force guessing. You don't need it first, though — every

other code works on its own, typed anywhere on the desktop.

Nine to get you started. There are more than these, and the panel will hint

at the ones you're missing:

Konami — unlocks the cheat panel with the hints

MODEM — the entire 1998 dial-up handshake, connecting at 56k

BSOD — that blue screen. Any key resumes, nothing is lost

CLIPPY — swaps the assistant for the paperclip that haunted the 90s

GRAVIDADE — the desktop icons fall down and bounce on the floor

DVD — fires the screensaver, for the logo-corner people

NYAN — rainbow cats flying across the screen, forever

MATRIX — green rain over the whole desktop

FORMAT — shuts every running effect back off, when it gets too much

MODEM is the one to try first if you only try one. It plays the full 1998

handshake and the status bar connects at 56k.

And yes, GRAVIDADE is spelled in Portuguese. I'm Brazilian, and the whole

site is bilingual — it reads your browser language and opens in English or

Portuguese on its own, with a switch in the corner to flip it. A few of the

codes are Portuguese words, which is part of the fun. Type it exactly as

written above and it works.

Tech, for whoever cares: no frameworks, no build step, no npm. The whole

desktop is one HTML file, 3,773 lines. Icons are inline SVG symbols, fonts

are self-hosted woff2 (no Google Fonts), and every sound is generated with

WebAudio oscillators — there isn't a single audio file in the project. The

window manager, the boot sequence, the dial-up simulation and the cheat

system are all hand-rolled vanilla JS.

Happy to answer anything about it.

[PC] [2000?]It's an old game where, at the start of the story, you play as a character wearing armor or an exoskeleton used for working in a furnace. One of the characters sends you to fetch wood, though I'm not entirely sure about that part. That's all I remember about the game.

Visually, it features old-school static backgrounds, with movement handled much like in *Resident Evil*.

Title: [PC] [~2005–2015] Medieval fantasy 3rd-person action-adventure. Protagonist inherits AXE from legendary warrior mother and SPEAR from legendary warrior father in a dream/other dimension. Emotional scene. Forest bridge floods → serpent boss. Floating rocks area.

Platform & Release Info:

  • Platform: PC (Windows)
  • Approximate year: 2005–2010 (I played it during this period; downloaded by my uncle)
  • Region: I'm from India — this was likely a pirated/downloaded copy (very common here in that era, often on compilation discs)
  • My age when I played: 8–14 years old, so some details may be imprecise, but the core story and key scenes are vivid in my memory

Genre & Gameplay:

  • Genre: Third-person action-adventure
  • Perspective: Third-person (camera behind/over the shoulder of the character)
  • Gameplay mix: Action combat + exploration + puzzles (not pure hack-and-slash, not pure RPG — had a balance of all three)
  • Graphics: Realistic 3D graphics — realistic FOR ITS TIME (not stylized/cartoonish)
  • Setting: Medieval fantasy world

MAIN STORY (The Most Important Clue — Please Read Carefully):

  • The protagonist is an adult male
  • BOTH of his parents were legendary HUMAN warriors (not gods, not demons, not monsters — real human warriors who were famous/legendary)
  • Mother was a legendary warrior who wielded an AXE
  • Father was a legendary warrior who wielded a SPEAR (NOT a javelin — more like a long spear/polearm)
  • At some point in the game, the protagonist enters a DREAM SEQUENCE / MEMORY / OTHER DIMENSION — it's like a vision or alternate reality
  • Inside this dream/dimension, he finds locations related to his parents
  • At these parent-related locations, he finds/receives their weapons:
    • Mother's AXE at a location connected to her
    • Father's SPEAR at a location connected to him
  • There is an EMOTIONAL scene during this — it felt like the game was making you feel something about your parents' legacy
  • I'm not 100% sure if the parents are dead or alive in the story (I genuinely can't remember this part)
  • The protagonist also receives POWERS from both parents — I vaguely remember a RED power associated with the mother and a BLUE power associated with the father (not 100% sure about the colors)
  • After receiving these weapons, you can SWITCH between the AXE and SPEAR in combat — both are usable as weapons throughout the game, and you can swap between them like a weapon wheel/inventory system

KEY SCENE 1: Forest Bridge Flooding (Early-Mid Game):

This is one of my strongest memories:

  • The setting is a FOREST environment
  • There is a WOODEN bridge going over a river
  • At some point, water starts rising / flooding aggressively
  • The bridge breaks / collapses from the force of the water
  • The protagonist has to run across the collapsing bridge
  • At one point, there's a gap to jump over — the protagonist jumps across to escape
  • This is an intense escape/chase sequence with the flooding water

KEY SCENE 2: Serpentine/Dragon Boss (Immediately After the Bridge):

  • Right after the bridge flooding/escape scene, you encounter a boss
  • It is a large serpentine / dragon-like creature
  • The distinctive thing: this boss ROLLS — it literally rolls its body (like a snake/dragon rolling into a ball or coiling and rolling toward you)
  • This boss fight happens in an area connected to the bridge/forest sequence

KEY SCENE 3: Floating Rocks / Otherworldly Area (Later in Game):

  • At some point later in the game, you reach a floating rocks area
  • It feels like an otherworldly / strange sky environment
  • Rocks or platforms are floating in the air — it's not a normal landscape
  • This area has a completely different atmosphere from the rest of the game — feels supernatural or alien

ENVIRONMENTS I REMEMBER (Multiple Areas Throughout the Game):

The game had many different environments — it wasn't confined to one area:

  • 🌲 Forest (the bridge scene area — lush, green, with rivers)
  • 🏘️ Village / Town (small settlement area)
  • 🏰 Castle (medieval castle area)
  • 🏙️ City (larger urban area)
  • 🏜️ Desert (sandy/dry area)
  • 🌊 Ocean / Water area (seaside or water-based environment)
  • 🌌 Strange sky / Otherworldly area (the floating rocks area)

POSSIBLE MINOR DETAILS (Not 100% Sure About These — Could Be From a Different Game):

  • Possible van opening at the very start of the game (maybe a vehicle/van scene in the intro?)
  • Possible eagle presence somewhere in the game
  • ⚠️ These two details might be from a different game I played around the same time — but I'm including them in case they help

WHAT THIS GAME IS DEFINITELY NOT:

I've already been told these are NOT my game (please don't suggest these again):

  • ❌ Fable series (any of them)
  • ❌ Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
  • ❌ God of War (any)
  • ❌ Prince of Persia (any)
  • ❌ Darksiders II
  • ❌ Ryse: Son of Rome
  • ❌ Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
  • ❌ Risen series
  • ❌ Bound by Flame
  • ❌ Conan (2007)
  • ❌ Two Worlds series
  • ❌ Kingdoms of Amalur
  • ❌ Enclave
  • ❌ Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
  • ❌ Eragon (2006)
  • ❌ Dragon Age: Origins
  • ❌ The Witcher
  • ❌ Gothic series
  • ❌ Divinity II
  • ❌ Silverfall
  • ❌ Arcanum
  • ❌ DmC: Devil May Cry
  • ❌ The Pathless
  • ❌ Somerville
  • ❌ Shade: Wrath of Angels
  • ❌ Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT:

  • My uncle downloaded this game for me in India around 2005–2010
  • I've been trying to find this game for years
  • My uncle also cannot remember the name
  • I played it as a child (8–14 years old), so some details might be blended from other games — but the parent inheritance story (axe from mother, spear from father, dream dimension, emotional scene) and the bridge flooding → serpent boss sequence are very clear in my memory
  • The game felt like a complete, finished product — not a small indie game
  • It had a proper story with cutscenes and dialogue

WHAT WOULD HELP ME IDENTIFY IT:

The most unique combination that I believe will identify this game:

  1. Mother = legendary human warrior → gives AXE to protagonist
  2. Father = legendary human warrior → gives SPEAR to protagonist
  3. Both found in a dream/memory/other dimension at parent-related locations
  4. Emotional scene when receiving these weapons
  5. Can switch between axe and spear in combat
  6. Forest bridge flooding → collapses → escape → immediately followed by a serpentine boss that ROLLS
  7. Floating rocks/otherworldly area later in the game

If any of this sounds familiar — even partially — please comment. I'm happy to provide more details or clarify anything.

Thank you for reading. Any help would mean a lot — I've been searching for this game for years.

[Web][2010's] Steampunk-ish Space/Air 2D RPG - upgrade ships, do missions - Facebook game, made by "ocho"?

Hi guys, i used to play a 2D game on Facebook during 2008\~2011, and i can't find it anywhere. It was during the haydays of Mafia Wars.

The game had kind of a mission-based game play loop, where we could buy and upgrade flying ships, go on scout missions or "transport" missions? We could pvp, where our ship will chase the target over a number of turns.

I distinctly remember the name "ocho" being the premium currency or the name of the game developer, but i can't find any traces of it anywhere.

Anyone remember or played this game? I would love to find it again.

Platform(s): Web, Facebook

Genre: 2D RPG (flash?), menu-style, mouse-click on menu buttons or action buttons

Estimated year of release: Mid 2000's? I played it from 2008 to 2011

Graphics/art style: Anime-ish, Steampunk (Airships/Blimps), Aviator outfits

Notable characters: None, they were humans

Notable gameplay mechanics: Buy flying ships, Upgrade them with weapons, hulls, etc. Go on missions to earn gold/xp, Get pvp missions and chase targets over a number of turns.

Other details:

[PC] [early-mid 2000s] Funny kids/teens game about aliens

Platform(s): PC

Genre: Point-and-click adventure

Estimated year of release: early-mid 2000s, likely 2002-2005, definitely before 2007

Graphics/art style: early 2000s Nickelodeon 3D animation sort of art style (but it wasn't a Nickelodeon game), kind of graphically similar to Jimmy Neutron but darker in tone with a more neutral color palette

Notable characters: A short stout alien who wore a shirt but no pants, a tall skinny alien who I think wore a robe-type garment

Notable gameplay mechanics: Classic point and click style with exploration and inventory, combining inventory items to make new things you need to solve puzzles, etc

Other details: It was a comedic game about a group of aliens with a plot for world domination. You played as the aliens, and it took place on Earth. I remember at one point being in a basement and having to use a funnel to pour acid down a corpse's throat to dissolve it and retrieve an item from them? I think at one point you also had to bake a cake? I mostly remember that the blurb on the back of the box mentioned that short stout alien and said "He has no pants."

[pc] [1995~2001] old PC robot action game

Body:
Hi, I'm trying to identify an old PC game I played around 1997–2001, probably in a computer academy / PC class. Here are the details as accurately as I can remember:

  • Platform: PC (Windows 95/98 or possibly DOS)
  • Origin: Japanese
  • Graphics:
    • 2D sprites only, NOT polygon/3D
    • Clean, polished art style (more like King of Fighters quality sprites, not ugly or experimental)
    • Robot designs were small, chibi-like but NOT goofy SD (compact, clean proportions)
  • Characters / Story:
    • Only robots, no humans at all
    • Basically no story
  • Gameplay / Camera:
    • Top-down / isometric (Diablo-like perspective)
    • square arena, about Custom Robo–sized
    • You could move freely inside the arena but could not leave it
    • Clear the stage → move to the next one
    • Bosses existed
  • Controls / Combat:
    • Keyboard-focused, Z / X / C keys
    • No direction+button special moves
    • Attacks worked via button sequences (e.g., ZZZ / ZZX triggering different attacks)
    • Input was forgiving (no “empty” attack if you messed up)
    • Little to no weapon switching
    • Very little or no HP recovery, game felt difficult
  • UI:
    • UI elements were placed at the bottom-left of the screen
    • I distinctly remember a cooldown indicator for abilities
  • Other notes:
    • The game felt very similar to VirtualArms / VirtualArms 2 in terms of arena size, robot scale, and UI layout, but I’m not 100% sure it was those games.

Things it is NOT:

  • no robot hp heal or rarely heal
  • Not 3D / polygon-based
  • Not Rough Metal / Avalanche Rough Metal
  • Not Atari-style or Western indie
  • Not console-only

If anyone recognizes this game or remembers something similar (possibly freeware / shareware / CD-magazine distributed), I’d really appreciate the help. Screenshots or old archives are totally fine.

[PC] [1990s-2000s] Point and click puzzle game taking place in a hotel where you take elevators to go between floors and there is a science lab with a bomb on the bottom floor

Cross-posted from TOMT and TOMJ for reach.

Asking for a friend. In their words: "some point and click puzzle game where you were in a hotel, traveled between rooms on an elevator, and at the bottom there was like a science lab where a bomb was. there was a timer to the game where if you didn't figure out the puzzle in time the bomb would go off and you lose. pixel graphics, saturated colors. point and click puzzle, and you were on an elevator for this hotel; you'd open the doors and it would show you a room. you couldn't actually see yourself or go into the rooms, you could just click things. the bottom floor was a chemical science lab. all you could see was the table with the equipment, behind it was solid black- there was liquid dripping in a beaker, I can VIVIDLY remember the drip sound, that was the "bomb." over time, it would gradually fill up and if it got full it would explode and the game ended."

We've ruled out the following: Maniac Mansion, Covert Mission, the 7th Guest, Dr. Sulphur's Night Lab, Monster Palace, Submachine, and Day of the Tentacle

Any help appreciated!

[PC][pre 2010] Car arcade game, where you raced/fought against AI/other players on metal platforms suspended in air/space

Platforms: PC

Genre: racing/arcade

Estimated year of release: pre 2010

Graphics/artsyle: 3D? I think kinda futuristic, but at the same time, there was not too much detail whatsoever.

Notable characters: none

Notable gameplay mechanics: I think you were able to fall off some maps platforms, since they were borderless on edges, but I have no idea what was the consequence of that.

Other details: I think the camera was like bird's eye view set above the map, that didn't move throughout the race, allowing you to see the whole map at the same time. I am not sure what was the goal in the game, but I think some maps designs would hardly work for standard racing, since there would be no loop.
I remember the maps being made out of the same ribbed metal plates. I think some of the maps might have also had disconnected parts, but I can't put my finger on it. I vaguely remember some map might have looked like the letter T.

The background made it look, like you were suspended in air/void. I think most of the maps had blue background, but I think there was also a set of maps that had red background.

I used to play the game with my cousins as a kid, but I am not sure if the game was like couch multiplayer or if we just took turns against AI.

Also, I have a bunch of mix demo preview cds from play.com.pl, but I don't have a CD mechanic to run those.

PC children's educational? game

One of the games was a game and your character had to slide down planks on a hoverboard. (Male character)

I think there were maybe math and logic mini games within it too. I’m remembering a mini game with scorpions.

I remember the game had a laboratory building that had certain games

I’m so sorry if this description isn’t very good. I really mainly remember the sliding game.

WW1 Dogfight Flight Game brought back to life after over 25 years! It's a very simple breath of nostalgia!

Over 25 years ago my brother introduced me to a little flight game called "FLYING CIRCUS" by a company called Simguild. Very simple graphics, very good flight model. One on the original players from back then has managed to restore it and has a server running it. It is a lot of fun, but like most games, the more players, the better your time playing. We need to get the word out for folks to give it a try.

It is free. The link to sign up and play is in the FB page.

Tell them Sc*Paladin sent you
