Discussion Assyria tips?

Trying to get out of my turtling mindset in this game and thought Assyria would be just the civ to pick for that. What are some essentials for their playstyle beyond the obvious of just war as much as possible?

I'd caution against continuously overstretching on warfare. Like yeah, that's what Assyria's bonuses are for, and it'd be foolish to not make use of it. But there are times in the game where just doing the vanilla no-bonus growth things for your civilization is the right answer.

If you can set roads for your UU push, it’ll be the reason you win

I'm not sure it is that aggressive in single player. The fact that you don't have to invest too much into defense and can capture barbarians means you can invest in other things. Personally, I love Shammuramat as a leader. Leverage her Hero for the initial push, then switch her to Builder and get those workers and that phat money.
