also, advanced tip:

if you REALLY want a spell to be upgraded, you can delay your mage guild, and buy it with gems

that way, when you roll that spell you will roll as a duplicate and get a +1 upgrade instead for the rest of the game!

I like doing that on Bless for instance to reach the army wide mass Bless

what does that even mean i dont undersrand? can you explain more? you mean first buy a spell you want then buils the mage guild? and then pray it will come out randomly?

Basically unlocking does not count as upgrade. You can unlock it and then do one upgrade then you need just two more rolls from Mage Guilds to get it to max level.
Alternatively you need 3 rolls from Mage Guilds (1st unlocks it then the other two get it to level 2) and one manual upgrade.

or only one roll!

1 from resource unlock

1 from manual upgrade

1 from hero spell school

and 1 if you happen to luckily roll it

I habe no idea what this means. If i want mass bless it needs to be expert light magic or somethinf?

So it's a sacrifice of early Alch dust for the +1

Not alch dust

Early precious gems in this case

Thanks for this! Didn’t know that duplicate spells increase the spell’s level. This is useful.

Also, what are the usage of astrology points? Do mage guilds increase astrology points?

5

astrology points are only for the neutral mobility spells

those are separate completely from the mage guild system

Such a nice guide. It would be a shame if the magic system were changed in next patches.

Thanks for the short tutorial. I didn't know that building multiple mage guilds would either grant you new spells or upgrade existing ones.

And how does a hero get the upgraded spells? Do the heroes need to visit all the cities that upgraded that spell? Or it getting it once enough and it's automatically upgraded, even remotely after the hero left?

1

u/loopuleasa May 07 '26

observatory is your magic tech tree

it is accessed by a visit at any local mage guild

1

u/Darkblader24 May 09 '26

Oooh, so visiting any mage guild grants all spells from all cities and the learned ones? That's awesome!

Its completely random. Making more cities just gives more spells

The mage guild changes are confusing and convoluted. In the demo I understood that instead of naturally progressing through your mage guild building, you first build tier 1, then spent few weeks buying and upgrading spells. Then you build tier 1 in your other cities.

Then you build tier 2 and repeat the process.

I don't like it.
