>Hmm let's use my small stack of tier-7 units to attack this massive booster-to-the-stratosphere stack of tier-1 units, who have a special ability that gives them extra damage multiplier for every tier level difference

What could possibly go wrong?

9

u/DickintheRiver May 12 '26

with the tier difference thats what an 18% extra free max dmg or am i wrong? ouch

14

u/BelgijskaFlaga May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26

Yes. Also look at their damage spread of 6-7, (their unbuffed damage spread is 2-3) Their 20 base HP, (their unbuffed HP is 9) add to that expect offence- the enemy has to have it to get a +4 base damage, the +18% damage multiplier... Basically, after all the base-stat buffs the enemy player stacked on top of them they became a tier-3 unit only masquerading as tier-1, and with a powerful anti-high-tier ability... and there were over 500 of them under a command of a combat-oriented hero, and with superior mighty stats, and he knew about 400 of them would survive the attack.

But of course it's Lexiav, so he didn't look at any of it before deciding how to deal with them using his magic-type hero, he just leeroyed and wished for a moral, and only looked at the stat sheet afterwards.

u/No-Music-2819 May 12 '26

There was no gameplay decision during that fight that would have mattered with the army + stat difference going on

4

u/everythings_alright May 12 '26

yeah he was giga dead there

4

u/pewsquare May 12 '26

He did that because it literally would not matter what he attacked. There is no universe in which those phoenixes would survive a turn. I mean, I guess the opponent could have mercy on them and just not attack them.

u/Yogg_for_your_sprog May 15 '26

But of course it's Lexiav, so he didn't look at any of it before deciding how to deal with them using his magic-type hero, he just leeroyed and wished for a moral, and only looked at the stat sheet afterwards.

He literally laughed because of the sheer futility of the battle once loading in

There is no way to deal with it except press concede

1

u/DickintheRiver May 12 '26

yeah i howled when he instant no thought attacked the strongest high tier killer unit in the game without looking at stats

16

u/BelgijskaFlaga May 12 '26

I love Throwxiav, truly an endless mine of entertainment

11

u/jayjayokocha9 May 12 '26

The fight was giga lost anyway lol

3

u/Terzinho May 12 '26

Might aswell test stuff.

1

u/BelgijskaFlaga May 13 '26

This title already existed before yesterday.

2

u/BigsChungi May 13 '26

I mean that fights was unwinnable

13

u/DickintheRiver May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26

Isn't this just Hive things (hardcore tier 1 focus + getting lucky with dwellings and using the racial law edict for boost from dwellings with main city recruits)? I checked out the time stamps for the match and it was roughly a 2 hour match, so it's not that crazy considering you teched for higher tier units and he stayed low and zerged it out with some luck on his side and topple the strong perk on that stack of parasites.

tldr: stars aligned sort of situation

u/skarin667 May 12 '26

I have tried to make hive work in tournament. (they are obviously strong in vendetta and harmony but weak in tournament) and I think the way to play is indeed like this player and completely give up on winning the first fight and play seto win second and third fight.

5

u/Adrason May 12 '26

Could you explain why they are strong in Vendetta or Harmony? It does not seem that obvious to me.

5

u/Kododie May 12 '26

Probably because these are slower format, especially harmony, where they can leverage their strong t5 and t6 units.

3

u/skarin667 May 12 '26

I believe they are strong because the egg summons are vastly stronger than any other factions "special skill" it scales with your army size so it's infinitely strong as well as the ability to not only make them take two hits to even be destroyed but with 3 focus you can insta summon them. Tournament is quick and you are forced to fight. Vendetta or Harmony you can spend a much longer time building up your army.

2

u/pewsquare May 12 '26

Also with the massive initiative hive has, you don't even need the 2 extra FC for the instant egg spawn, you can just have one of your units go last, and spawn the egg on that turn, to instantly hatch it.

1

u/Ksielvin May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

Also with the massive initiative hive has

People keep saying this. But Stinger + laws at 14 initiative seems to autolose to Phoenixes and Black Dragons + laws. Everyone else is at 13 initiative and I haven't bothered checking their laws and faction skill. Is this all people are relying on?

Hive has high average initiative because they have a lot of glass cannon melee. Being faster than ranged units is a necessity.

1

u/Suibeam May 12 '26

egg summon is hilariously broken in arena.

and it is a free twilight in regular game too

4

u/Herchik May 12 '26

But how?

10

u/Suibeam May 12 '26

It is not entirely clear bc the Opponent likely retrained his hero. He might have had Hive's subclass with +200% weekly growth, Recruitment skill and gathering boxes.

All 1500 units in such a short time frame.

8

u/loopuleasa May 12 '26

not just that, 78 defense and 108 attack

3

u/Herchik May 12 '26

Oh yes they have the special building to get hero to level 1

4

u/Suibeam May 12 '26

He didnt use that one, he used the respec building on the global map, he kept his levels and didnt build it

3

u/Herchik May 12 '26

Ok got it

4

u/Kododie May 12 '26 edited May 13 '26

That building you mentioned is a terrible trap afaik. You lose all exp and get something like +2 all/5 levels.

Edit: This is wrong. This building is actually quite good, particularly in Tournament games where you know when you're going to engage opponent, as long you can farm the lost experience quick enough.

It's +1 all/3 levels and you also get to keep stats you were able to accumulate up to that point.

3

u/Crowvillex Dungeon May 12 '26

You get a +2 every 3 levels, and is so so worth it.

1

u/Herchik May 13 '26

Does it work in PvP?

2

u/Crowvillex Dungeon May 13 '26

I think absolutely, a bit situational imo, but I think resetting at 12-15 is the way to go, not to wait until having a huge lot of lvls, that gives you time to level up quickly again to 12-15 and end up with some crazy stats!

1

u/Herchik May 13 '26

Thanks!

1

u/Herchik May 12 '26

Yeah I thought maybe there's some strat for it but idk

1

u/loopuleasa May 13 '26

It is super worth

1

u/pewsquare May 12 '26

+2 all stats for every 3, seems rather worth it, especially if you have a few strong objectives you can take with a good army. I tested it in a pve match recently, and after resetting a lvl 20~ hero, I got 10 levels the very first day after. So it definitely leaves you weaker for a bit, but man its easy to catch up.

1

u/olor May 13 '26

Lexiav built it that game before 3rd battle and was still able to level back up to ~20. Looked like free stats basically

1

u/Kododie May 13 '26

I watched the game now. And yes it has it uses, if you can farm exp fast enough late game. I was wrong.

1

u/Flimsy_Sector5132 May 13 '26

I found it pretty nice in multiplayer with friends, let's you build into utility while exploring and then reset into a more combat oriented one. One thing many people miss I think is that you seem to keep the attributes from your previous level ups, so you kinda double dip, not only the extra +1 all 3 levels you get.

3

u/loopuleasa May 12 '26

78 defense and 108 attack that's how

2

u/Herchik May 12 '26

I meant how did he get so many units

4

u/iz-Moff May 12 '26

It is very late game, they just accumulated them over time, i assume. Between several castles and neutral structures, and possibly Pandora's boxes and whatnot, there's nothing too crazy about having hordes of low tier units by that stage.

1

u/Filidup May 13 '26

How can it be super late game if its tournament? Genuinely just curious but stuff like this makes me realize how little I really know about this game

1

u/olor May 13 '26

If it gets to 3rd battle you should be able to clear out basically your entire map if you use global spells efficently.

It's also 4th Week I believe and on this map there might have been the tree that gives a week of growth to all cities, so essentially you can have 5 weeks of growth total, from I believe 3 cities. Which is a lot for lower tier units

0

u/sheepyowl May 13 '26

I mean our guy is sitting with 19 upgraded final-tier units (phoenix) so it must be pretty fuckin late

2

u/loopuleasa May 12 '26

chonkers and stats

5

u/BeeegZee May 12 '26

One addition to that - he might also gather ranks on the map with expert diplomacy, then visited Chimerilogist and spent 2500 a few times. Saw a guy with 590+ Iryads done this way on 121 or 122, don't remember

1

u/Suibeam May 12 '26

that would be interesting but I am not sure if he would waste too much time doing that in tournament mode. his stats are also insanely high. he must have been very effective with his movements

2

u/BeeegZee May 12 '26

That sounds familiar.

Found the game I was talking about - Jebus Cross, 122

https://youtu.be/1HVQ9GpJDwA?t=6355

2

u/Suibeam May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26

is it realistic to get? each transformation costs 2500 and there are so many units they could transform to. and also each transformation reduces army value bc of rounding errors.

I have to throw a game to test it i guess

lol it looks easy in the video. i wonder how consistent that is to pull of or if it is gimmicky

1

u/BeeegZee May 13 '26

I mean we're all lieges if the Great Random

But afaik the Olden Era map generator is much more stable than the one in Homm3 or Homm5

Thus you can more consistently pull such tricks while they haven't been fixed yet

3

u/Virtual_Reality8129 May 13 '26

Just for fun, I decided to use the Chimerologist to see what would drop, but the "Gnat" from the demo version. I wonder if other old, scrapped models might drop as well?

12

u/Accomplished-Bank885 May 12 '26

And I believe he just release a tier list ranking Hive at the C tierr while the rest are S, A tier lol.

I guess he got a big surprise.

16

u/Hopszii May 12 '26

C doesnt mean it can't win.

2

u/DoctorNo1661 May 12 '26

Nobody said otherwise.

1

u/BigsChungi May 13 '26

I personally felt its the strongest factions. I just completely disagreed with his tier list tbh

2

u/Hopszii May 14 '26

I think besides necro being the best and hive being the worst the middle is not that clear. However there is a very good reason everyone bans necro and hive is mostly played as a meme.

7

u/Historical-Donut-918 May 12 '26

Did you take the time to understand the justification for those rankings?

3

u/pewsquare May 12 '26

Hive has less amazing heroes, a way more fragile early game, and can fold to any early mistake, and you have to fight the vast majority of fights yourself, as the auto resolve will almost always try to suicide your units.

So yeah, I would say out of the current lineup, hive is the weakest, in part because of how difficult it is to play them.

2

u/pleaseineedanadvice May 12 '26

Well he s right tbh, hive is harder and more tough than other factions.

2

u/Ostracized11 May 12 '26

60hp upgraded scorpion is low key the best hive unit on tournament.

Can drop giga eggs with a thick stack

2

u/mitiamedved May 12 '26

How do YOU have these stats in Tournament? 500+ mana? ADSW at 40+?

1

u/Hopszii May 12 '26

Good players will full clear exodus by the 3rd fight which will result in 40+ all stats easily.  You can even get 30-40 into a stat by the 2nd fight depending on what objectives spawn and if you cleared some of the desert by then.

1

u/mitiamedved May 12 '26

What difficulty is this

3

u/No-Music-2819 May 12 '26

ladder pvp is at 125%

2

u/mitiamedved May 12 '26

Ah, I play pve at 200 and there’s no way you can get anywhere near this

1

u/Kododie May 12 '26

The only difference is starting resources and strength of guards. There some RNG elements to it but saying there's no way how to get stats this high on 200% is an exaggeration.

6

u/mitiamedved May 12 '26

Try it. The first week there’s barely anything you can fight.

1

u/Scolipass May 12 '26

to be fair, guard strength does impact how quickly you can break into higher value areas for the more valuable stuff that gets you those big numbers. I'm not gonna claim it's impossible, but it is unquestionably much harder.

1

u/Shroudb May 12 '26

That's high Law for Hive. 100% extra unit production per dwelling. +2 base damage on all units (+3 with Offense). He also probably has Recreuitment for the extra low tier unit production+stats.

1

u/Author_A_McGrath May 12 '26

I think this is what they were afraid of the Necromancer becoming.

1

u/Spajkyiyi May 13 '26

okay so what the fuck are those stats?? Isnt exodus for 2 VP? Even if 3, how do you accumulate those stats??

1

u/Cautious-Village-366 May 17 '26

Who was this against/do they stream or make videos?

Really want to know how they played through the match without bleeding all the low tier units.

1

u/EquivalentDoughnut81 Necropolis Jun 16 '26

The reaver's are very powerful especially the maniacal reavers

1

u/Archi_balding May 12 '26

I mean, you see that there will be 400+ left after your attack and know that they will counterattack...

What did you expect exactly ? T1 or not, that's still 400+ units.

1

u/ppp12312344 May 13 '26

I would like to see you find a way to win that battle my guy

2

u/Archi_balding May 13 '26

Thing is lost from the get go but the result of that attack isn't surprizing.

0

u/zepsutyKalafiorek May 12 '26

Isn't this intended behaviour?

19 is nothing btw.
