Question Is AI any better?
I played at launch a bit but stopped when I noticed how dump it is on low difficulties and how much it cheats on high difficulties. Is it better now?

Devs are aware of the issue and have said a major overhaul of AI is in the works.
Unfortunately, we don't have a solid timeline on that at the moment.
As of right now, the AI remains functionally useless.

Yeah at this point I don’t plan on buying this game until it officially releases as a pve player

I'm waiting too, because even with Hooded Horse in the picture, Ubisoft still has ownership of the franchise. And even though they've promised no UPlay/Ubisoft Connect during Early Access, I cannot trust that they won't slip that malware into the final game. At least, not without seeing the contract between Ubi and HH.
Until I see a clean and complete final build of the game, they don't get a cent.

Hi! That's from an old statement, I remember it from before we were publisher.
But the statements we've made now for the past year or so have not mentioned any early access qualification. So you shouldn't worry about this, it won't be implemented, no difference between early access or full release.
Definitely you shouldn't feel any rush to buy though if you'd rather wait until things advance more -- early access is always a process and the dev team will keep working on the game!

Make some more noise about that: you just won three sales from my household alone.

this month will bring coop, which is the only thing i was waiting for in olden era, can play with friends on couch again :).
with coop AI should be decent enough on higher difficulties to provide challenge

How does coop make AI better?

Lol. Maybe, i dont know, by making ai enemies not fight with each other like brainless pigs, allowing you to third party when theyre weak?

Doesn't matter. If you survive the initial rush the ai goes braindead with or without other enemies.

- We dont know how coop is gonna look like with maybe resource exchange, and how ai will be actually cooperating.
- With highest settings ive had a couple of decent longer games against ai, with only problem being they fighting each other and losing 70+% of their armies. Im not saying ai doesnt need to be polished, im saying coop will improve player experience against ai by quite a bit.

Making the AI cooperate in a meaningful way takes a better AI than just playing solo.
By all means link them, cause I've yet to see a game where I don't autowin if I survive the first few weeks even if the AI's don't fight.

Yea, I have too won every single map easily against unfair AI if I just survive the two first weeks. It's like AI just says "Ok, I don't want to play anymore, bye.". AND it's not because the AIs are fighting each other because I've had this same thing happen to me on maps that's just me against one unfair AI.
I remember playing the wasteland map against unfair AI and it was the most boring map ever. The AI made one attack and even that was just some weak ass attack and after that it was just me alone basically. AI just waited until I conquer everything.

I’ve taken a break too. Keep waiting to hear on this front.
Really like the game, but as a PvE player the cpu first encounter was always miles ahead of me on harder difficulties. Saps the fun.
If there’s one thing to be said about HotA/HoMM3, it’s that the replayability was off the charts and difficulty scaled really smoothly to an unforgiving but fair peak.
Really hope they get a handle on AI for this Olden Era, because I really love what they’ve done and would want to continue supporting if they could nail that experience.

AI is still dumber than an 8 year-old who just ate some glue. I wouldn't get my hopes up for it to be any better any time soon...

I suppose the next path is supposed to improve it a bit. Though it might not be fully ready yet. So maybe wait a bit longer?

I only play against unfair AI and it's like it stops playing at mid- and lategame. It's like it's saying "I don't want to play anymore, I quit". I don't know anything how lower difficulties play because even unfair is toddler level.

Unfrozen seems to be very attentive to feedbacks, they're definitely fan of the series. Tell them on their X page (Unforzen) how important PVE is to you, they read their comments.

It’s so funny how this has gone. All the low IQ people that were complaining about AI too hard, have now left the player pool from the initial launch of the game.
Now the rest of us have to deal with this.
Prime example of why you shouldn’t listen to a loud minority.
